i have over 200 nmt but idk if i should do that or island hop... i have no smugs, so it might be easier to campsite trick some more

Yeah it would be easier to do the campsite if you're trying to get a certain villager type. But if it doesn't work out you can take a break and try island hopping c:

I think you could do a bit of both! I love island hopping, so I might be biased. I think if you island hop for a bit and don’t like who you find, go campsite! It’s a hard decision though, so if you are looking for that specific type of villager then go campsite.

For specific villagers who will stay in your island forever, do campsite. For random decent ones that you won’t mind staying in your island temporarily, you can do island hopping. I personally hate island hopping. It’s as tedious as the campsite method, only worse because of all the repeats and the randomness of it is whacked. My biggest problem with it is that there’s no guarantee you’ll find who you’re looking for so really, with this method you can only settle for whoever you don’t hate. Seeing villagers you hate one after the other over and over is frustrating because it’s not only a waste of miles but a waste of time because of the possibility you’ll end up with no one. At least, the campsite method is guaranteed, it’s free and time isn’t wasted in the sense that even the ugliest villager won’t be a waste since that will be one off your list and you’ll be getting closer and closer to your target villager as the pool dwindles down so it just means you’re closer and closer to your goal.

I think it's ultimately up to you, but if you're already doing the campsite method, I don't see any downside to continue doing so. Island hopping costs NMT, while the campsite method only requires you to be comfortable with TTing.
