Here's the thing.
I'm french and I used to play AC Wild World in french,
so it was only natural for me to pick french for my 3DS when I got New Leaf recently.

Now that I've joined this forum I feel a bit left out for not knowing any of the villager's names in english,
any of the song names in english, the fish and bugs names...

So right now I switched my game to english and it just didn't feel right.
The voices are different and I feel so disoriented by the vocabulary that I'm not used to.

But I want to be able to share funny conversations and understand the english terms!

In my shoes, would you just stick to the language you are used to in the game,
or would you tackle a new game in a whole new light by switching to a language that allows you to be closer to a community, but that just doesn't feel "right"?

I'm sorry if this is a silly topic but I really can't decide. :(
And I'm thinking maybe some people here can relate?

I would stick to my native language. It's unique and your preference, so I think you should stick with French..

Based on your post, you seem more comfortable keeping the game in French, so I would just stick with that! You should do what is best for you and not what you feel would be best for an online community. :)

Stick with french , and basically what every one who posted before me said it best~

As someone else who is bilingual you should keep it French
I mean I don't have my game in Japanese but the weird thing is, I've actually memorized the names in both languages. Sounds like a chore, but I naturally started picking it up from reading villager profiles while I was bored.

I would keep with my native language. =3
Only reason I would play in another language, is if I was learning another language and thought it could help me learn...

On a side note... voices are different in different languages of the games??

Thank you all for your opinions, I think you are right...
I'll just have to learn the names in a 2nd language, like PopteenPrincess did!

Yes fallenchaoskitten, the intonation of the voices is different, it's difficult to explain...
The pitch isn't exactly the same, and to me the french version seems less mumbled. But that's just me!
Because I'm more used to it.

If you are having a better experience playing the game in French, you should keep playing in French.

It's too bad there isn't a resource/list with all the names of villagers and songs and furniture and stuff with the names of everything in different languages.

I did not know this... Now I want to change mine to the different languages just to hear them speak in each one. ^-^

I agree stardrop, but it's ok, I usually image search with the english name and I know who/what we are talking about. ;)

I know on http://animalcrossing.wikia.com if you look up a villager ((english name, though ^^')), it will tell you the name of that villager in other languages.
But that is the only thing I have ever noticed that was even remotely close to being a resource/list of names. =/

I live in Japan and I'm playing the Japanese version. It is a little confusing because everything has a different name from what people are used to on this board.
I played the English version before, so I know the English names of a lot of the main characters. But there are so many items and villagers that if I am not familiar with them from previous games, I don't know what they're called in English.
I do a lot of googling. If I keep seeing a villager name going around but I don't know who they are - google! Also I try to refer to things with their English name on this board so people know what I'm talking about.
The good thing is, for most stuff, Animal Crossing Wiki lists the Japanese names too, so I can search a villager's Japanese name, and see what they're called in English.
I wonder if it's the same for French? Or if you can find a site with a list of French and English names for stuff?

But that's just for the sake of communication on this board.
The most important thing is for you to enjoy your town in the way that is most comfortable for you.
Your town is for you, not for anyone online.
I say go with French!
