I've been wondering if it would be worth it to buy a second copy of New Leaf to do some time traveling in (I don't time travel in the copy i have), and do some cycling do get my dream villagers. If I buy a digital copy, it's only 29.99, which I can afford, so it's not really about the money... except it kind of is, because I don't have a lot of money, and there are so many other things I could buy with those 30 dollars.

Basically, what I would be doing in this second town would be a heck of a lot of time traveling and cycling villagers. I could improve the amount and kinds of items I have for sale, I could have villagers up for sale, I could generally have a good time... but, money! Money and the fact that I've only been playing for a week and a half after not playing for 3 months and I'm worried that my obsession will fade and I'll be 30 dollars poorer.

Any thoughts?

I was actually going to ask this question earlier this week, but I just decided to go ahead and get a second copy. I, too, was worried I'd just get bored and it would be wasted money. I haven't regretted my decision yet, and I bought my second copy Monday. A major factor for me was I just had a tonsillectomy last Thursday and I needed something to keep me busy while I recovered. I think you should go ahead and buy it if you really want it. I believe on the eShop it's currently only $20. The game still has a lot of players, so I would go for it (as long as you don't have anything more important to buy).

Yeah, I'm thinking I might go for it. Though I just checked the eShop and it's not $20, that's not a big deal. I'll wait until July 1st, though, just to make sure this isn't an impulse decision.

^ someone's been sitting alone at his computer a little too long...

In response to OP though I've considered getting a second copy too, but I eventually decided against it. For me it was a money thing and, like you said, knowing me my AC obsession will probably only last to the end of the summer. After that I won't have time to play a lot anyways. Also I like just having one town because it makes it feel more special. But if you think you'd get some use out of it go ahead!

I often think of purchases in terms of money per time i.e. if I ended up playing a second cartridge 300 hours I'd be paying 10 cents an hour. But since I would never play a second cart that much it's a no for me.

Or someone just knows how to perform a 10 second search on a forum...

Everyone has different pros/cons for wanting to buy a second copy. But to answer the question, i bought a second copy and i'm happy i did. It keeps the excitement of starting a new town alive, and it only made me love the game more! I say go for it :)

despite the annoyance of having hundreds of these threads already exist, I bought a second copy, though I only use it for hacking.

Figured that I shouldn't hijack someone else's thread when asking for myself :)

Edit: forgot to respond to everyone else's posts! I really appreciate your thoughts. I'll see how I feel come July 1st, but I'm thinking it'll make me enjoy the game more.

Wouldn't you need two 3DS's in order to transfer villagers from a digital copy cycling thread to your main town though unless you're thinking about getting someone else to be middle man o; ?

Anyways, I would advise not buying a second copy of Animal Crossing: New Leaf given your intentions. Cycling for other people to get IGB or TBT is monotonous and rather boring. Most users don't need a ton of IGB and most of the IGB just sit in the bank collecting dust and while large sums of TBT is nice, it would take a lot of effort to make back the $30 in worth of TBT from buying the game. I think that copies of Animal Crossing: New Leaf used to sell for over 12,000 TBT each and just imagine how many tier 1 and 2 villagers (and kicking out the filler less popular tier 4 and 5 villagers in between) that you'd need to sell in order to make any sort of gain in value ><. You also mentioned that you're just recently gotten back into New Leaf after taking a few months of break from the game. You're rather likely to take another break with having a second town since the experiences of the game will feel repetitive since you've already went through them once and got bored o;. Plus, I don't know if now is even a good time to buy another copy of the game xD. Earlier this week, the eShop had a sale on Animal Crossing: New Leaf - I think the game was listed at $19.99 USD. I don't expect for there to be another sale of the same game for awhile ><.

All that said, you know yourself the best so you should do what feels most comfortable :)!

The sale must be off. Last week it was about $20.18 or something along those lines. I just went and bought the physical copy for $29.99 anyway.

It depends if you really want to get a second town, then I guess you should do it, if you don't really care that much, or you want another town a little bit, don't get it.
