Sewing Machine ~Able Sisters

I just got the sewing machine. Do you have to be Mayor to use it?

You have to go through talking everyday with her/them for each of your playable character, if it is what you're asking.

oooooh okay I guess my brothers character is one step ahead of me. He can use the sewing machine, but it's not giving me the option to yet. I got scared for a bit bc I thought only if your mayor you can use it

Haha no it's okay. I don't know how it actually works when going to someone's else town and wishing to use the sewing machine if you didn't get it yet in your own town, but in your game, even if one or two-three of possible playable characters get the sewing machine unlocked, if you currently use a character who didn't get it yet unlocked, then it's still locked until you re-do the same talking everyday stuff with Able sisters, mayor or not ~
