Second switch?

Did anyone here buy a second switch just so they can have 2 islands? I have a normal Nintendo switch that I got last year, and ever since falling in love with New Horizons I’ve wanted a second island. Today I caved and ordered a switch lite from Best Buy, it’s coming in 8 days and I can hardly wait. Has anyone else here done this?

I wish it was like new leaf where you can have as many copies as you want but sadly it’s only one per switch.

Also, is there a way to make my Nintendo switch online subscription valid for my second switch as well once it comes or would I have to purchase another subscription? I don’t really want to pay for another membership, so I guess I could just do local play between my two switches if I need to transfer items

I didn't buy a second switch just for two islands, but eventually my husband bought his own switch, specifically due to the poor treatment the 2nd player got on this game. We were hoping they would be more involved with the island but they really got pushed to the back burner here.

It wasn't an entire waste since we both play the switch regularity. We used to take turns without an issue but now we both have our own so there's some good that came of it!

Yeah I’ve seen a lot of complaints about the second player and stuff. To be fair to Nintendo, it’s not any worse in this game than NL, the second player didn’t really have a role there either. But I do agree they could have integrated it better

I've been considering getting a Switch lite just to have a cycling town but I cant really find a good reason to do it.

I believe if you get the family plan for switch online you can have multiple consoles on the same subscription!

I was seriously thinking about getting the limited edition AC Switch (even though I already had one). I'm honestly both relieved and a bit disappointed that it sold out as quickly as it did. It's a beautiful console.

I have two switches since I'm totally nested by the AC Switch and have pre-ordered it although I already have one, and I'm using the first switch as a Cycle island.

You can link to the same nintendo account for different switch. And since it's one saving per switch. You can start the game with same user but totoally different island, which means you can play online using the same nintendo account without purchasing an additional subscription.

The only problem is:
You can not play the game at the same time with two switches using the same user.
So the solution is: having a second villager on your second island only when you want to play or exchange items between your two islands. And at the other time, use your main villager.

I'm tempted, but I'm trying to justify it and having trouble. But I reaaally want another island..

I've got 2 systems, but only one digital copy of the game. With this setup, I can't join the other Switch locally or online. It's more of a playground of sorts for my kids to mess around. They'd much rather play Minecraft anyhow.

i haven’t been getting a second switch and copy is definitely something i’ve considered. maybe i’ll do that sometime in the future aha

I thought about it, but my daughter has been staying with us and she has a switch with the game on it so I have been helping her out since she has been working insane hours and has no time to really play daily. I find it is more work than I want having two islands, but it is nice to pick hers up when I feel like doing something different.

Man, I feel you.

I was tempted to buy a second switch, but not for the purpose of having two islands. Would have been a collector's item for me.

If I had a family member that would play, I'd get them a Switch in a heartbeat because they wouldn't get the full experience if they were a villager on my island.

OP: for online, do you have a family membership? If so, I imagine you could add your second Switch under it.

if you have more than one switch, you can do the family plan. we bought one switch a couple of months ago, and i told my hubby from the get go we'd need two, 3 days later we ordered a second one lmao. we have separate nintendo accounts, but the second one is on the family plan so didn't need to pay for another online account.

i control the main switch, he has the secondary since i am home more, and we currently only have one digital copy of the game. the only issue with one copy, is that we have to have wifi/cable for his to function as his will check for it before it allows him to play(or you go through the annoying changing which switch is the main one). oh and it is also an issue with the phone game, when you have one copy, the first person to use the code to get the items is the only one allowed it will not accept a second code(but they can send you two items a day from the goodies anyhow). i don't understand why you wouldn't be allowed to play, as long as it's a family account you should be able to DL, unless you only have a physical copy.

I dont need one but ive been day dreaming of buying it because it is, as you said, such a beautiful console!!

I haven't, but I foresee my mom asking me to pick up a second one for her.

Luckily, my husband and I have separate switches so I can just play on his if I ever feel the need to start a second island.

see, hubbys do have their uses!

My boyfriend has zero interest in Animal Crossing (I know, a crime!), so I've been tempted to make a cycling island.

Also for the nintendo subscription stuff, I think since subscriptions are tied to your nintendo account, you don't need to a second one.

I did.
I didn't really plan on doing it or at least doing it this soon. I had 3 NL copies/devices (a regular DS that was gifted to me, eventually got a XL for the bigger screen, and then later on the updated XL). I didn't really feel as bad about it because they all were somewhat "upgrades" and spaced out. The extra NL copies were cheaper too.

For NH, the AC themed switch was my first switch. I couldn't really justify buying two consoles so I wasn't really going to do it without some time spaced out. But...I think with quarantine taking it's toll and with my husband insisting to get another because he knows how much I enjoy the franchise/having more than one town to play in different manners...I just kinda took him up on his words of support lol.

I don't really regret it I guess. It would have happened eventually and everyone I know said they knew I would eventually lol. I feel that my AC themed switch will always be somewhat my "baby". So, I couldn't see myself taking it out places. I like that having the lite, I can see taking it when we travel. It does ultimately feel good having two towns which I knew it would. So...yolo?

I upgraded to the family online (it refunds whatever from a single online membership wasn't used towards the upgrade).
