second players influencing upgrades? and villager interaction

Hello everyone! quick questions about NL. Do all players contribute towards the store upgrades by spending bells on items or is it just the mayor who has to spend the required amount for the store to expand? also, I don't really want to do much with my other characters, just using them for storage really and displaying furniture. If I don't interact with my villagers will they be more likely to move? I don't want any of them to move and my mayor character interacts plenty with them

I would assume that side characters also count towards the upgrades, but I'm not completely sure.

If your side characters have introduced themselves to your villagers and they ignore them, I believe it will make them more likely to move, but only if you play as your side characters daily, from what I know.

My mayor character is never used and the only character I play on is my side. So yes, you can get upgrades with them, and it wont make villagers move out quicker or anything. However, it's easier to stop villagers from moving since you can use both accounts to convince them to stay.
