Happy Halloween TBTers! I am hosting the Scary Story Contest, where you can tell scary stories. I would like to read what you have to write.

In order to participate, you must write a scary story. Either it has to fit the spirit of the horror theme, or it has to be something that?s both scary and serious (like natural disasters, crime, economic depression, or disease outbreaks). All entries must be posted on this contest thread, and it has to be in spoilers.

If a story posted on this thread is not yours, your job is to upvote it. If the story scares you, or if you find the story to be scary in general (whether or not it scares you), you must upvote the story by clicking the ?Like? button. If you don?t think the story is scary, do not upvote it.

The contest closes at 9:00 PM Central Time on October 14th. Whoever has the most upvotes wins the contest.

Rules:

 1. Please keep your stories appropriate. No inappropriate content or highly controversial subject matter (such as race) allowed.
 2. Your story cannot be a documentary or based on a personal event. It must be fictional and written in a narrative way.
 3. You must write in orange () or purple () font when writing your stories. They must be between 500 to 1,000 words long, posted on this thread, and put in a spoiler with the story name in the title.
 4. Do not plagiarize other stories. Doing so will disqualify you from the event.
 5. Be respectful to other entries. If you want to comment on them, it must be a compliment.
 6. Do not ask for upvotes. You only get them if you deserve them.

Prizes:

A writing contest? I am SO in! I must say though, that I'm not used to writing stories that short haha. I usually write essay lengths so that'll be my interesting challenge!

Question, can we use fictional characters like from a favourite show or does that count as plagiarizing? Just want to know before I start cause I usually write fanfiction.

You are allowed to do fanfiction, crossovers of fanfiction, and variations of classic stories in the public domain (like if your scary story is a variation of The Three Little Pigs). You just can’t copy stories word to word and claim that it’s yours.

Perfect, thanks for clarifying for me!

Thank you for hosting such a fun contest to get into the holiday spirit :)
Look forward to reading everyone elses wonderful entries.

Here is mine:

The old floorboards groaned with every step she took, she whipped her head around, checking twice for any sign of the Beldam. No sign of her, her heart beat slowed just a little bit. Grasping for the door handle, Clara blew out the eerie light of the candle before crawling under the bed to hide. Her breath came out a thick fog in the bitter cold of the night. The darkness would cloak her, she thought, long enough until the morning came and she could run away from the town without a trace or harm.

The Beldam was an ancient spirit in the form of an old lady from the deepest part of the forest in the East. No one had ever dared to go near it. Clara had ignored the grave warnings she had received from the villagers of Gallow and foolishly explored the woods, well into the night until she had found an enchanting willow tree, swaying so sweetly in the breeze. She wanted to touch it and so she walked up to it and placed her hand on it’s trunk. Before she could blink, a bitter wind curled and wrapped it’s way around her arm and she couldn’t remove her hand. The Beldam came out of the tree, her eyes a wildfire blazing and screamed so profoundly loud that the river line receded, the trees froze and the wind stopped it’s sweet journey. Clara ran, ran until she found this old cottage even further into the forest.

Now, she lay frozen in her place under the bed, trying not to think about the events that had occurred. With every breath she took, she prayed she would live until the morning. Creeeeek Clara could have sworn her heart skipped a beat at the sound.

“Intruder!” croaked the Beldam.

Clara wrapped her arms around her knees and tucked her head down, regretting the day she had moved to Gallow.

“I know your here…” The Beldam teased.

She let out a low cackle that sent shivers down Clara’s bones. Clara couldn’t see anything in the dark, nor a window to escape. The Beldam’s steps became louder with every passing second.

“Come out! I don’t like playing these games” The Beldam grew impatient fast.

Clara scrambled around her to find something, anything that could protect her. She pulled the candle from her pocket and darted her eyes around in search of anything to light it with. All she would need was a little bit of light… Just enough to create a barrier between herself and the Beldam.

The door swung open in great force and the Beldam crept in, slowly, examining every inch of the room in search of Clara. Clara peeled wood from the leg of the bed and scraped it against the wall. A small light flickered at the same moment as a bitter wind drift under the bed, curling itself around Clara, rendering her unable to move. The Beldam slowly crouched down with a wicked grin.

“Found you” She whispered.

Clara flicked the light from the fire onto the old wooden floor with the remaining strength she had. A great fire grew and the Beldam screamed.

Clara ran as fast as she could until she was out of the house, toward the village. Sun light returned as the morning drew closer. Clara ran back to Gallow and never returned to the forest from the East again.

Just to clarify, when you say narrative way, does that mean third person or can it be first person?

Just to clarify, when you say narrative way, does that mean third person or can it be first person?

Narrative means it can’t be like a documentary. Think of narrative and expository text.

Narrative: “Once upon a time, a giant spider popped out of the cabinet, and then it bit an unfortunate person.”
Non-Narrative: “Giant spiders tend to live in hidden spaces in houses, and their venom is lethal.”

Aah okay that makes sense. Thanks for clarifying, now I can get started c<

Thanks for always hosting such AMAZING giveaways, Alolan! And thank you for the opportunity~

One day, in the widely inhabited, yet... extremely eerie town of Junefruit, lived an arachnid. His name was Nosferatu. He lived in a hollow, rotten, and mossy log, where he would spin his webs. Nosferatu was known for being quite the troublemaker, always biting the citizens of Junefruit Hollow, always leaving his sticky cobwebs for the inhabitants to get stuck in... Well, eventually, the citizens grew tired of Nosferatu's antics. They wanted to put an end to this troublesome arachnid. They started off with a town riot; but a riot over one measly arachnid? It wasn't enough for the citizens of Junefruit. They then decided to grab the log he lived in, and set fire to it. As the log crackled and burned... Smoke wafted through the air, but the smoke was no ordinary smoke... It had an odd odor, and a peculiar hue to it. It was a grimey purple, and smelled like an old boot.

Nosferatu then expanded... He grew gargantuan. He was furry, hairy, and HUMONGOUS! Nosferatu was angry. Would anyone blame him? The citizens of Junefruit set fire to his only home. The only home he took pride in. The end of Junefruit was near, all because of one 'measly' arachnid. The arachnid groaned, he hissed, and he cried in pure fury. He was more than just angry. The citizens he thought were kind, the people he thought adored his antics; they had tried to kill him, as if he were any ordinary spider. The bigger he grew, the angrier he became. He had set up a devious plan to end the lives of everyone in Junefruit... Slowly, but surely. That's what he hummed to himself as the screams of 'innocent' citizens were burning along with the log Nosferatu once lived in.

This would be known as the 'Curse of the Arachnid'... Everyone, including inhabitants not even living in Junefruit, would know to never mess with a spider again, because the offspring Nosferatu were to later produce, would grow just as big as him, and torment the world forever. Until the humans knew... until those petty creatures knew to never harm a spider again. As the citizens of Junefruit begged Nosferatu not to put an end to their happy eerie town, he grinned.

"You foolish creatures! Do you not know what you've transformed me into!?" he cackled deviously, rubbing his legs together like a housefly plotting the deaths of thousands of humans. The people continued to cry, sob, anything for an ounce of pity as Nosferatu continued his evil plans to destroy this town. He paced back and forth, watching everything break loose. The chaos. It brought a smile to Nosferatu's face. He then began to gather all the wounded humans, which was pretty much all of Junefruit, and spun them into a constricting web. They could never escape, no matter how hard they tried. The screams of the not so innocent... Ah. Music to the arachnid's ears.

"This is what spiders will become, if you mess with them!" Nosferatu hollered, the fury was quite evident in his voice. The citizens of Junefruit incessantly begged for their lives, however... The arachnid had an even better fate planned for them.

"Thor, Siegbert, get over here!" the spider yelled. Soon enough, his two closest friends, Thor the Millipede, and Siegbert the Stinkbug were by his side. They, too, had transformed into gargantuan creatures. Not made by God, or by man. But made by arachnid. This is how the world was sure to end, death by arachnid. Or, death by millipede or stinkbug... Hm.

"I feel like this was going to be too easy for all of you. So, I called my buddies over to torture ya'." the cries, the sobs... They had only gotten louder and hoarser when Thor and Siegbert had arrived to the scene. Funny enough, there were no police officers to stop their reign over the world, as none of the authorities believed the citizens of Junefruit.

All was going according to plan... The end of the human race. The beginning of the insect era was soon to come... All thanks to Nosferatu.

I worked super hard on this, heh. Maybe a little bit more than necessary :"D

Thank you for reading~

First of all, thanks for doing this contest. I never really wrote any big fan fictions or stories in
general in my life, but I will try my best here. Sorry in advance if it's not 100% spooky or if
the English is not perfect, it's not my mother tongue and I still learning to get better, hope
it's okay anyway.

Two months ago, a young man named Marty got a job as the mall cop at a local shopping
mall. Ever since he started his new work, he almost had night shifts only, which was however
not a big problem for him. His shifts were always calm actually, only had to deal with an old
lady that escaped form the retirement home down the street once as well as a raccoon that
somehow ended up inside the candy shop in the second floor. But this night, it was different.

Normally, Marty is a person that doesn't get scared so easy, at least that's what he claims
about himself. He walks as always his typical way through the first floor of the mall, checking
here and there with his flashlight the dark spots, standing still for a moment, looks around
and continue his walk.

"A warm cup of coffee would be nice now." he thought.

Via the stairs he goes to the second floor, direction to the new burger restaurant that had
it's grand opening last week. While walking, he noticed a weird noise from the distance. At
first he was not sure what it was, but the more he nears the burger restaurant, the better
he can hear the noise, which now sounds more like as if someone talks.

"... Away..." a soft mysterious voice spoke.

"Huh?" Marty looks around, nothing to see. "What was that?"

"... Away... Go away..."

"W-Who is there? Hello?" He swings his flashlight in all directions, still nothing to see.

"... Go away... You are not save here... If you don't want..." The voice gets louder.

Marty takes some steps forward. He feels something like wind passing his body.

"H-Hey, who is there? Sh-show yourself! Y-You're not allowed to be here at this time!"

He takes again some steps forward, looking around the whole area, his body shakes.
Marty was not sure what is going, if someone makes a prank here or if he losing his
mind. He started to get more nervous and irritated.

"...If you don't want to die... Then go awAY FROM HERE... NOW..." The mysterious voice
gets even louder, now sounding more aggressive.

"O-Okay listen, I-I will call the po-police right here right now if you do-"

Before Marty could complete his sentence, he gets hit by something that he would describe
as a very strong gust of wind that push him full of force down. He fells and hits with his left
arm on the ground, pain goes through his body. It was hard for him to stand up again, his
whole body felt as if it was paralyzed. Marty tries his best to get up when he feels a cold
breeze next to his right ear. Someone whispers into his ear, it was the mysterious voice.

"... You are in danger... You gonna die if you not go away from here... Now... NOW... GO...
GOOOOO AAAWWWAAAYYY!" The voice yells directly into his ear.

Full of shock and feeling how now adrenaline goes through his whole body, Marty starts
screaming, jumps up in panic and run his way back, he didn't care over the fact he left
his flashlight behind. His eyes now in tears because of the pain, he almost felt the stairs
down back to the first floor, runs directly to the direction where the exit for the employees
is. He kicks the door open, runs through the long passage till he finally reached the door
to the exit of the building. Marty runs the whole way up to the parking spot. Fully out of
breath, he fells into the ground, his body's shaking and still in pain.

"W-What was that???" Marty questions confused while looking to the street lamp that
lights up the location a bit.

But before he could rethink of what just happened, a loud noise shocks him. He turns
around quickly and with wide open eyes he sees how flames coming out of the shopping
mall from which he just escaped, along with dark clouds. As it turns out later, there was
a explosion coming from the just new opened burger restaurant. A gas leak as the Fire
Department assumes. But one thing is for sure, if the mysterious voice wouldn't scare
Marty away from this location he most likely wouldn't have survived that night...

It’s October, perfect time to tell scary stories.

And don’t forget to upvote stories if you find them scary. That’s how the contest works.

Hello! I thought I would give this a try. I am in the spooky mood! Thanks for hosting this, I really got to be creative with this! Hope you enjoy!
The room grew quiet as everyone held their breath with anticipation. Anna was at home with her friends, Ella and Kelly, one Saturday evening. Ella dared Anna to get out their Ouija board that was in their basement, and here they were. Sitting on the dimly lit concrete floor, being swallowed by blankets to keep them warm, with all of their hands on the pointer. None of them knew what to do

“Well… ask something!” hissed Ella to Kelly.

“What should I ask?” snapped Kelly, “I’m not asking anything!”.

“Fine! I’ll do it myself,” said Anna, who was white with fear. She drew up the courage, then took a deep breath.

“Are there any spirits with us today? Yes or no?”

“Really original, Anna.” laughed Kelly.

All the girls sat frozen. Slowly, the pointer crept across the board.

“YES?” screamed Kelly “You must have moved it, Ella.”

The pointer once again crossed the board painfully slow, until it read no.

“This… isn’t funny. I don’t want to believe this. Can we put the board back?” cried Ella, obviously shocked.

“Fine, fine. You’re the one who dared me to do this, but whatever.” Anna sighed. She went to get the box while Kelly put down the pointer and started to gather the blankets.

All of a sudden, the pointer moved. Ella saw it out of the corner of her eye but didn’t think much of it until it started to spin. It grew faster and faster, and the girls watched in horror as the pointer started to… glow? Then BANG! The board exploded as pieces of cardboard littered the air.

There was a person standing where the board had been. Her face looked long, sunken and yellow, like old parchment paper. She had long, stringy black hair that went down to her waist, with claw-like fingers that had sharpened yellow nails. Her dress was gray, but looked like it had molded for several decades. She was very skinny, almost to the point of bones. Her name was Samara, the demon.

“Aww, come on, girls! We were just getting started. Don’t I get to have a little fun, too?” Samara cackled, her raspy voice flooding the basement. She lunged at Ella, who ducked and tried to run upstairs.
Samara waved her arm, sections of the wall collapsed in front of Ella, blocking her path.

“Come on, that’s a little too easy, don’t you think? Samara snapped.

Anna, meanwhile, was trying to hide in the closet, when she got an idea. Slowly, so she wouldn’t draw attention to herself, crept to the other side of the basement to find something, anything, to protect herself with. She saw Kelly run into the closet and rolled her eyes. Kelly was just as scared as the rest of us, she thought. She found her old softball bat and decided to put it to good use. She heard a loud crash and looked out to see that the wall had collapsed, trapping them in.

“So, I should thank you for releasing me. The Underworld isn’t the best place for me, or for that matter, for anyone. I will have to possess you. It will hurt a great deal, but don’t worry. It will all be for the benefit our Master Satan, ruler of -” KLANG

The bat hit her square at the base of the skull. Samara let out a blood-curdling scream and started to disintegrate. The only thing that was left of her was the pointer and a couple of talons. Not wanting to wait around any longer, Ella, Kelly, and Anna worked to get an opening large enough to crawl through the rubble and started up the steps. None of them would talk about this event for a while, and eventually, they would forget it even happened. But Hell would remember, and would be back to get them soon enough.
