I played the original AC back in 2002, but didn't get and start playing New Leaf until the beginning of this month. Thanks to a trade I did with m3ow_, I have 20 million igb. I've been spending a lot at The Able Sister's, the stores, etc. to get upgrades. Should I rush to do this or take my time? I feel like I've barely spent much of my 20 mil so far, but I wonder if rushing through it all will ruin the challenge or fun.

Well, if you've already traded for 20 mil before you've even played a month, then I'd say you are already kind of rushing through the game. I earned all of my bells to pay off my house upgrades in-game without trading. It depends on how much patience you have. If you are willing to wait 2-3 months to pay off your house and upgrade Nook's, it will feel more rewarding when you do so. If you do a lot of time traveling and just try to get things done as fast as possible, the game will probably start to feel tedious. There are some things which just take too long to accomplish "naturally". Getting all of your dreamies in your town without time traveling will take forever and getting 100 million bells in your account without trading online (or cheating) will take an extremely long time. My advice would be to take the game slowly at first; you can always speed things up if they seem too slow. If you start out really fast, you'll more likely than not just end up getting burned out playing ACNL and you'll miss a lot of experiences that you can't get back.

That's true. I think I just got so excited with the possibility of trading/selling etc. Wasn't something I could do 13 years ago as a young adult. I'm enjoying it all either way especially since I can talk to my younger cousin.

It's perfectly fine to trade. I do it all of the time on these forums and sometimes you have to trade to get a rare item that you're looking for. I'm just saying that if you trade to get everything you want, then you end up missing out on a lot. There would be no reason to check the stores each day or check for special visitors or participate in holidays and events. So I'm just suggesting that you do it in moderation and don't completely rely on other people for stuff because you will get bored very quickly that way.

Thanks! I figured! Just hard to imagine since I'm nowhere near bored yet.

i agree with red cat, for the most part. trading/TT'ing/etc is fine as long as it's in moderation; too much of it is going to make the game get stale fast. not to mention if you rush it all, you probably won't get as much satisfaction from it as you would if you'd taken your time. not to mention the fact that you may just be bored of the game overall by that point.

Yeah I've been buying villagers a lot. The tbt made it easy. I mainly just got 10 villagers I like so I could start building paths knowing they'd be there a while. Of course I still need to build paths onto what's there when I make bridges, etc. but I like it. I will slow down a bit though.

I'd also probably take it slowly. I started off the game just playing by myself. None of my friends at the time played, and I wasn't even aware of trading online or how seriously people take the game for that matter. It was really fun to play at my own pace for a while. Even after I joined tbt, I never traded or anything because I didn't want to risk picking up a villager from someone's void. It was really fun still! And I think I would've enjoyed the game a lot less had I gone straight into trading.

It was only this year, over a year after I got the game, that I started trading with people. It was really nice to get what I needed, but I don't think I went too overboard. I still like to breed my own hybrids if I can, but there are just certain things I want that come a lot easier with the help of other traders.

I agree with aleohart. It's best to take the game at a slow pace. Do not time travel too much and do not buy from the forum every single day. I would breed my own flowers and hybrids. There are some things that are best to buy: dreamies, rare furniture and rare plants.

It really just depends on how you like to play. These is no right or wrong. I like to place bridges, the campsite and the police station as early as possible in my towns. I also like to expand house at least a couple of times. There's where I am in my new town. From here, I can take it slow. Pripyat is finished as far as PWPs go and my house is completely finished. I still find lots to do, though. I need to work on fishing, catching bugs, collecting art for the museum, and I still want villagers to move out and in so I can make new friends. In other words, rushing hasn't ruined the fun for me, but it might for you. If you think it will, you should definitely go slow!

I started a second town, bought IGB and rushed like crazy to make everything perfect. It was a joykiller for me. I deleted that town and began another one. I have been taking my time and really enjoying the gameplay. Nothing wrong with buying IGB and buying villagers. I am doing that again, just at a much more leisurely pace. I did the old school, walked to school in the snow, earned bells the old fashioned way in the first game and CF. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to buy money, lol. Andy, I say play the way that works best for you :) All that matters is you enjoy yourself.
