Ruby's shirt changed when she moved in...?

Ruby was in my alternate towns as a camper, I invited her and cycled her out so that she would join my main town! I wanted to keep her as original as possible, but in the process of cycling she decided to change her shirt to one of the designs at my clothing shop.

I was pretty bummed out because I really liked her normal shirt and she had changed into the default design shirt, the white-work shirt looking one.

But whatever, I can get villagers to change their shirt by mailing it to them anyways, so I wasn't too upset. Anyways, I invited her into my main town, and .... she is no longer wearing that design shirt anymore, she's wearing her original one.

Does this mean that villagers who change into design shirts will change them back once they move into your town? To be clear, I didn't have the same white shirt design on display anymore in my main town, I had my own custom ones up.

Does this mean that villagers can still be original if they change their shirt to a design? Has anyone ever experienced this???

Hmm. I'm sure I've had villagers turn up in specially designed shirts to my town before from when I've invited them from another town.

Though the way that I understand it, each villager has an inventory for clothing and furniture. Your Ruby changed her shirt, but she didn't get rid of her original shirt (either by giving it as a gift or a reward) so it was still in her inventory. Hence how she changed it back. I've had that with villagers before. It's why sometimes when you send a villager something like a couch they may regift it back to you at a later date.

So you think she just decided to swap shirts when she moved into my town basically because she still had her original in her inventory?

That actually kind of makes sense, I guess I lucked out because I didn't have to give her extra shirts that she probably would have then inserted into her home XD
I didn't even know villagers could decide to be like "Yeah, I don't feel like wearing this anymore, back to my old shirt I go!"
I have seen them hang around other villagers and decide to put on the same shirts as their neighbors. Currently Skye has made everyone in my town wear her melon green shirt, its pretty cute.

That's ok! I don't know all the logistics but I've definitely had it happen before. Example, Tammy got sent a shirt. She changed into it and her original shirt went away but didn't go on display. The next day she had changed back to her original shirt. I guess she preferred it

I dunno but a shirt is a shirt. Just be happy with your villagers for who they are

if you have a cycle town, you need to fill your able sister shop with ALL umbrella designs, i don't think they will buy those. this way the only way they change clothes is if another villager gives them clothes or something.

also to help keep originality in a cycle town as well, buy out everything in the re-tail and repost it all up for 99,999 so villagers do not buy or sell anything from there.

I am happy with who they are, that doesn't mean I have to like their fashion sense xD

True but I learned to just get over it. I am starting to look at it more from the way I used to play it and not treat them all as collectibles haha.

I like playing dress up with my villagers, in Ruby's case though, her original shirt was the best one for her, I mean it has a bunny head on it :c

They aren't really collectibles, I just like being able to control what they wear and what their house looks like and the best way to do that is to start from scratch, it adds a level of depth into the game when they ask me to replace furniture, I always look to see what would fit better in their house / where it would go, and I like them to have cute clothes and stuff!

in my main town, i had a friend come over and without me knowing they changed out a few of my able sister's designs and one of them found it's way to stitches.. and now he's wearing it and i don't have the heart to change it on him because i actually think it looks super cute on him... given the circumstances..

I hate when villagers change their shirt to something ugly. It's like noooo, you looked so perfect! Then when they ask you how they look, you have to bite your tongue and tell them they look great so you can avoid hurting your friendship with them. Dx
