I just transferred my system from my pink 3DS XL to the new Hyrule 3DS XL. I like the stability of the 3D image very much, the sound is better (although perhaps my old unit's sound did not work properly), and the cartridge has not accidentally ejected yet. The latter is a big plus because I lost my first AC:NL town that was as i was nearing 100% of items and had all my original villagers. However, I find the screen feels sort of rubbery under the stylus. It is hard to describe. I don't really see a difference or feel much difference with my fingertips but I do not find the stylus glides in quite the same way. I have a few Nintendo brand styluses and have tried them all and still there is this not quite gliding effect.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does a screen protector help? I used one on my first DSi but it got pretty done in eventually. Even when I first put it on, I felt it decreased the visual quality, I have not used one since, although I hear they have improved. Has anyone found this improved the rubbery feel without decreasing visual quality? I think I have a spare Biogenix one around the house that I was going to put on my other 3DS XL but did not. Just not sure...

I have never experienced a rubbery feel with any of my DS systems with or without a screen protector. I guess it might be your Hyrule 3DS XL's screen since you've tried other styluses on it. I'm not sure why that would happen but you could try screen protector and see if that helps. Since your concerned about the screen protector altering your 3DS visuals then you should buy an iLLumiShield. It is the one I use for my 3DS XL and I can promise you it adds no glare or anything like that to the screen. I noticed no difference in the visuals with it on. It did give the screen a different feel to it, which is why I think its good for you. It adds a thick layer over the screen and you can feel it. I think a iLLumiShield screen protector could get rid of that rubbery feel for you.
I hope this helped! :)

I almost instantly applied a screen protector to my New 3DS XL and I will do the same with the one coming in on the 19th/20th, so I'm not even sure what the bare one is supposed to feel like anymore. I highly recommend a screen protector regardless though, they tend to be very smooth!

I will have a look for that one. Thank you.

I did get a chance to see a 3DS XL with one applied, today. It looked better than the one I had on my old DSi. So it seems they are really improved. Now the issue is I am horrible at applying stickers of any sort. LOL.
