Here is a list of mental disorders. This might help you to create a reason for why you're in the mental institute. Make sure you check which one you're including, because some would not be a reason why someone is in a mental institute.

You've been extracted from your everyday life because you've been deemed mentally insane or deemed unfit to be around others. You're on a boat, sailing far, far away from everything that you've ever known. Friends and family? You won't be seeing them for a good twenty years or more. And where are you going?
A mental institute which lies on a desolate peninsula.
It's almost always raining, and the area is covered with a thick mist.
This story begins once two people sign up.

Appearance: Small, slightly upturned nose. Olive skin. Clumps of her badly dyed hair have noticeably yanked out. Very petite.

Reason for admission into mental institute: Originally was framed for manslaughter when she was sixteen. She was deemed mentally insane after five years in prison. She became dangerous to those around her, often lashing out and threatening to hurt other people when triggered.
Personality: Impish, violent, hot-headed. Somewhat charming, but hard to befriend.
*Mental Disorders: Anxiety disorder, agoraphobia (due to this, she prefers to keep herself in small rooms), attention deficit disorder.
Flaws: Often threatens to kill people. Dramatic. Says what she doesn't mean.

Personality = Serious, and short tempered. Likes talking, despite not liking other people most of the time. Hyper active and slightly unlikeable. Loves violence and death.
Flaws = Strange attraction to eyes and tongues. Reckless and unlikeable.
