Returning to Older AC Games

I'm thinking about but I'm too scared that my favorite villager is gonna move away ;0; Also I have the really old 3DS so I can't scan amiibos with it

I’ve visited my city folk town a few times. Just makes me sad... weeds everywhere and villagers say, wow where have you been, it’s been YEARS. Why yes, it had been.

Then you look at the bulletin board and it makes you feel like life has been going on. Tourneys come and go, winners are announced, etc.

I don't think I want to go back to my old town. It was a lovely place full of beautiful memories - but I've moved on and so has my town without me - or so it feels when I open up my DS. It's not my home anymore, but it will always hold a solid place in my heart.

I got on ACNL for my Birthday earlier this week to see if I a villager would finally gift me the Birthday shades (it’s been 7 years), and I found out Cube moved in. Cube is my favorite villager, he was one of my original 3 in Wild World, and I’m tempted to try to get his picture before he moves out.

Now I kinda wish we could transfer villagers from NL to NH...

I tried to keep up with ACNH and ACNL daily for a couple of months, but eventually got overwhelmed and started to fall behind on ACNL back in late June. A couple of days ago, though, I dove back in and had a great time, so I think I’d like to continue balancing both games.

I’m working on this formal garden in one of my ACNL towns, and it isn’t quite finished yet. I’ve found that having a specific goal in mind for each game makes it easier to keep up with the different towns.

As for older games, I returned to the GCN game repeatedly over the years, across four or five towns. My GCN clock battery isn’t working right now, though, and I’m not sure what that would mean for AC. I came back to WW and CF a little bit later on, though not too much (in WW, one of my favorite villagers moved, and in CF, grasswear caused too much stress).

In terms of returning to ACNL, and concerns voiced above about villagers moving, I have a couple of ideas. First, if you remembered when you paused, go back to that date and play day by day until you stop a mover, and then jump ahead. Secondly, there is an Amiibo reader accessory you can buy that works work older 3DS models. I had trouble finding it on its own, so I bought it bundled with AC: Happy Home Designer, if you don’t already have that. I don’t know what stock is like these days, but it should be available. I used it a number of times without issues, though I eventually upgraded to a N3DSXL for other reasons.

Thus far I do prefer New Leaf to New Horizons, if only for the OST: New Leaf was just infinitely more charming in that sense, almost every track was memorable. There are good tracks in New Horizons too, obviously, but they're not as good as in New Leaf. I guess that's just personal preference overall but I've honestly thought about just muting New Horizons when I play and instead putting on some New Leaf tracks in the background.

I guess it can also be ascribed to, like, the lack of actual items. Like many others have mentioned, for a game that focuses so much on customization, we ultimately don't have *that* many options of matching sets and stuff. Comparing that especially with ALL the furniture we had at our disposal by the time the Welcome Amiibo patch was added, it feels a little sparse, really. They'll most likely add more stuff as the time goes on, they've been doing it for, like, special holidays so far and stuff, but right now, I think it's pretty normal to have a better opinion of New Leaf than of New Horizons.
