Refurbishing Question

I was wondering:

When you give Cyrus a Shirt to refurbish onto a furniture item, (like the alpine items) do you keep the shirt, or is it destroyed in the process of him refurbishing it?

It's gone when you give it to him. You can't get it back, but you can reorder it, of course.
