What do you think?

I think it's kinda clear that Nintendo isn't too interested in providing old games on their eShop any more and I'm worried that you wouldn't be able to play old games now without an online subscription, which means they would only be available to rent like the NES games on Switch, and when the service ended that'd be bye bye to your town!

But if they did bring back a VC of sorts, do you think ACGC would come to it? Hopefully with an extended calendar and e-reader items available for all regions obviously without the requirement of an e-reader. e+ would be even better, but of course I doubt it would be localised. It might come out for Japan though, and then we could always get it through an alt account.

I would definitely pick it up even though I don't usually play more than one AC at a time because I love ACGC but wish it had an extended calendar, and I would love to have access to the same features as the US had with the e-reader.

Them doing away with the Virtual Console is just silly. This is when it would pay to just own all those old game consoles (like I do).

But if they do bring back VC on the switch, I don't see why they couldn't introduce Gamecube games, including Animal Crossing. I'm actually really hoping they do.

That would be awesome but if you really want to play it, just buy a copy and a GameCube or a Wii. Those consoles really aren't that expensive in secondhand shops. It brings some nostalgia with it.

I already have the ability to play it just fine but would absolutely buy it again to play on the Switch with the aforementioned improvements. :)

I mean I guess they could but since I already have a GameCube and physical copy of the game that works just fine, I wouldn't personally buy another copy. But it would be nice to make this and other older games accessible to people who don't have the older consoles.

What if you could play ACGC in the game? Like the ACGC's nes games or NES Metroid in Metroid Zero Mission, but I doubt it will happen :(

Actually, aren't GameCube games quite expensive nowadays? At least several of them? Keep in mind the GC is the lowest selling Nintendo system after the Wii U... and no, the Virtual Boy doesn't count. So basically, a lot of GC games didn't exactly sell 4-5 million copies worldwide and thus are rather scarce online in comparison to A LOT of PS2 games. People seem to forget nowadays that the PS2 absolutely decimated its rivals in sales. So that led to a lot of GameCube and Xbox classics becoming rare gems that sell for rather high prices on websites like ebay since most people never got to play them or know of their existence for years. F-Zero GX for example is a tough game to find nowadays. Maybe that's the case for Animal Crossing as well?

As for the question of the thread title... well no signs seem to point to the game ever getting re-released. Plus, it'd be hard for Nintendo to convince a newer generation of gamers that didn't grow up with the original AC game to play it nowadays since it might seem rather barren compared to New Leaf in terms of stuff to collect and stuff to do. No PWP and there's only 2 shops, for example. Not to mention its gameplay mechanics are rather outdated by now. Animal Crossing is the type of series that's iterative. People feel more inclined to buy and play the newest version due to more content added as the technology improves in every new console that comes out.
