Will the College Board's New Test Work? (EDITORIAL)
I believe the College Board's new test they revealed last Wednesday will either be a success or a failure, and it all depends on how students respond.
The ReadiStep will be an optional test for eighth graders that will measure their strengths and weaknesses before they get to high school. The test will be divided in to three parts, similar to many state required standardized tests: reading, mathematics, and writing.
Whether the test will be a success will depend on the reaction of the students next fall as well as the promotion from the schools. I personally would take the test, however not all students feel that way.
Many students do not think about their future at least until they are a sophomore in high school. Those students would of course not take the PSAT, one of the other tests created by the College Board.
The College Board has also been in a part of creating the SAT and PSAT tests, which most colleges use as a part of their admission. Over two million students take the SATs each year, which confirms its success. But is a success because it's required to get into most colleges?
Another question that may either make the ReadiStep a hit or a miss would be whether middle schools require students to take the ReadiStep. For example, if a school were to require each student to take the test, each student would have to pay the ten-dollar fee in order to take the test. Not only would the test be d for the fact they have to pay for it, they'd it for it being another required standardized test.
I think that if the ReadiStep is going to be a success teachers will have to put a strong emphasis on taking the test similar to how teachers emphasis taking the PSAT. If they make it required it'll just be another one of those government-standardized tests, which no one will take seriously. We already have enough of those._________________________________________________What do you guys think of the test? If you don't know about it use google.
