Leonard Nimoy, best known for his role as Mr. Spock in the original Star Trek series, died today as a result of end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was 83.

"We are assembled here today to pay final respects to our honored dead. And yet it should be noted, in the midst of our sorrow, this death takes place in the shadow of new life, the sunrise of a new world; a world that our beloved comrade gave his life to protect and nourish. He did not feel this sacrifice a vain or empty one, and we will not debate his profound wisdom at these proceedings. Of my friend, I can only say this: Of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most... human."

-Captain James T. Kirk

Goodbye, Mr. Spock. You will be missed.

As a lifelong Trekkie, I am deeply saddened by this. I enjoyed him in not only reruns of the original show, but the newer Star Trek movies, and his cameo on that one Big Bang Theory episode was very funny.

So long, Mr. Nimoy. May your memory and talent live on forever. :(

I don't believe in god or any "after life" so I won't say RIP.

But I will say that he will be missed and that we have lost someone special today.

I was a HUGE fan of star wars and his acting :( RIP

Star TREK. lol

To me, he WAS Spock. He was the embodiment of the character. And now he's gone :/

Damn, we lost Genie recently (Robin Williams), and now Spock! v.v
This is messed up.

he was the pinnacle of my childhood

Aww. I heard he was admitted to the hospital a few days ago and thought that spelled disaster from the start... apparently I was right :(

He lived a long life though. And he contributed a lot to the entertainment industry in his time. Rest in peace, bud.

I'm glad to see theres a thread for remembrance here and just.
God.

Leonard Nimoy was such a big part of my childhood.
I already made a post on tumblr about it, but God, he will be dearly missed.
But he lived long, and he definitely prospered in the end.
I'm sure he's resting peacefully.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Spock

Was very sad to hear of his passing. He was a great guy and a great Vulcan. May he R.I.P.
