I have an empty plot today, but I may not have enough time to actually go island hopping for very long.
I also often forget to 'save and end', leaving my nintendo on sleep mode and just starting it up the next day by pressing 'a' three times.
The game then automatically ends, and reloads with Isabelle announcing a new day.

I know that, in order to time travel, you need to save, close the game in the home menu, change the time, then start the game again.

What I can't find: If I forget to save and close my game tonight, can I still just close the game tomorrow in the home screen (without saving), change the time to today, and have the empty plot still be empty?
And if I start up by hitting the 'a' button thrice without going to the home screen first, am I automatically screwed? Or could I still press 'home' as long as Isabelle hasn't announced the new day, close the game and change the time?

Wait sorry I’m a bit confused...
So..
1. left the game on overnight but went to home screen before sleep mode
2. left the game on overnight but it’s open and not at the home screen before sleep mode

for 1, I think you can exit and TT but you run the risk of potentially corrupting your save since I’m not sure what happens when the game runs past 5am in sleep mode o: and you TT back

for 2, yeah it’s going to go straight into the next day and you won’t want to exit the game then since it’s probably auto saving

honestly I think you should put an alarm on your phone or computer to remind you to save & quit at least for today bc both of these options seem risky &/or maybe won’t keep your plot open

Also here’s a Reddit thread where the OP sorta touches on this and they kinda did what you’re trying to do with the first choice and got the “brown screen of death”

Thank you! It doesn't show that you were confused by my question, I can understand your answer and it makes sense. I guess an alarm it is then, even though that may get lost by interruptions as well.

I'll just hope I'll find my new villager on my second ticket or something XD
