You have to spend said number of bells to get the nook shop expanded so if I go in to a friends town does it count towards it?

You mean spending forbitems @ another Nook's Store? No, it has to be the store in which you're the Mayor.

That's the issue for tons of users; in order to upgrade the stores within our towns, we need to spend mega Bells on stuff we don't need. :-[ The brightside is, procuring Bells seem to be abit easier in New Leaf.

I haven't been getting anything worth keeping in the Nookling shop either. I just buy everything so I can get the upgrade quicker. haha
