If you have an item in your posession, does it automaticly get added to your catalgue?

I was wondering because I was going to ask a friend if I could hold his Triforce, then I could order one from Nook.

yeah, if you've ever had one in your inventory, you're good.

but some items can't be ordered... (triforce can be ordered though )
