Question about Toy Day gifts!

When the villagers receive their gifts, do they put them in their houses when possible (furniture, for example?) or not? Or sometimes?

I want to participate in the festivities, but there are some houses I don't want to mess up... ):

Most of my villagers did put their items in their house (except for Avery who asked for an orange, haha). But you can always get them to replace that furniture at a later date!

I think all my villagers put their items in their home (or wore them) after last Toy Day.

Oh ): That sucks, I really wanted to participate, but last time Coco and O'Hare (my two "done" houses) got something else in their houses, it took me SO LONG to change that back.

With Coco I didn't even manage to do it, she changed one of her bonfires for a fossil. O'Hare took forever to get the perfect house, and he has way too many exclusive island items for me to mess up (which I already did, once, and it was hell to fix).

He changed his old sand castle for a tee.​

I also remember that took me more than a year to make my old Deirdre to change a stringfish I gave her for a bed.
Should I be this picky with villager houses? Probably not, I know, but it makes me unhappy seeing their houses all ugly! ):
