So I have school from 8am to 3pm, which means I have to either wake up early (have the early bird ordinance) or wait until after school to play (which I don't mind). The problem is, my 3DS only works when it's plugged in, and I want to check turnip prices as well. So I TT. Is it time travel if I only ever go FORWARDS?

nah.. It also counts when you go backwards. I mean i did go TT back to Bunny day. Then when i tt back, a villager was gone.
well if you do tt that isnt that long (few hours), it should be fine.

Also, backwards supposedly counts as one day only no matter how much you go back unless they changed that.

So, yeah if you go backwards and the huge amount forward yes someone might disappear, or reverse. There is a trick to this if you keep right track of amount of days and you can keep them stay but I don't remember exactly how I did there so I'll leave that for someone else to answer.

Time travelling can rot your turnips so you gotta be careful if you buy a bunch and time travel forwards or backwards. Anytime you time travel, just make sure you have (1) set your ordinance to Beautiful Town (since you don't need to wake up at certain times anymore for shops, etc. you don't need the other ordinances). (2) Make sure you stop any villager that pings you about moving if you want them to stay in your town.

If you time travel by just a few hours in the same day, you should be fine. That's what I do because I work weird hours sometimes and I don't want to have the early bird or late town ordinances. I just make sure I don't ever skip forward or backwards on the dates.
