Question about the update

There's a new update that came out today. I don't have enough room to download this new update, and no, I can't make room. My question is, can people like me who didn't install the update play with other people who did install the update? Or do you have to have the same versions?

Are you talking about 1.5 or a different update? I only have 200MB and I just hope they'd stop updating this game soon otherwise I'm- I mean my 3DS SD card is going to run out of memory. Yes, there's probably a few glitches that might need patching but smaller glitches that are harmless don't need to be patched.
