Question about the Kiosk and spending

I've unlocked T.I.Y but in order to unlock the Emporium I have to spend 100,000 bells. This is wont be that much of a problem but I was just wondering if buying items from the catalogue counts towards the goal or if it only registers store bought items. Random question but i've been wondering about it for a while.

Buying from the kiosk does work. I bought 3 white katanas and I was all set. I had already passed Gracie's too.

Considering that TIY needs to have been open for 30 days before it can expand, I don't think you even need to buy from the catalogue in order to spend the 100k. Just buy everything every day. Of course you can use the Kiosk if you just want to get it over with.
