Question about house plots

So I have a villager leaving my island in a few days. When the plot opens up after he leaves, is it possible to demolish the open plot so I only have my other 9 villagers so I can take my time figuring out who I want to invite OR is it permanent and only have a certain amount of time to invite someone after they leave?

Unfortunately you cant demolish plots.

That being said nobody is going to move in the first day the plot is empty (the day the house disappears). So you have at least a day to find someone.

I do recall some people saying your 10th villager has to be invited though? So I'm not sure if you'll get anyone random. However you can still pick up villagers from other peoples voids so be careful

When I put my 10th villager plot down I spent the day it was empty trying to find a villager I had wanted to invite using NMT, and I also don't have amiibo cards and it was almost the next day so I gave up on that first day. When I loaded up for the next day, it said Naomi was moving into the 10th plot (which I was not happy about lol) so in my experience I did have a random move into my 10th spot!
