Question about having two towns.

I've been wanting two towns for a while just for a change and I'd like to make my other town have a different theme, I think it'd be more fun! I already have the physical copy of the game, and I was wondering if it was possible to download ACNL from the eShop and have the physical copy in at the same time. Will they both show up on my home screen?
