This is a pretty basic question, but with how complicated breeding can be, I'll do my best to ask it clearly...

When you breed a special hybrid, like a purple mum that has the genes necessary for green mums... If you breed multiples of the special hybrid together, are their offspring also "special"?

So if I get two purple mums that have the genes to make green mums and breed them together, would any resulting purple mums also be able to make green mums, or can only purple mums that come from yellow mums do so?

And I'm using a specific example here, but my question is in general.

Basically I want to know if I have to start from step 1 for every special hybrid, or if I can just start breeding them together when I get two.

The answer that is applicable to all flower is... maybe! There is a chance they are the correct hybrid, depending on the dominant and recessive genes.

In your particular case purple offspring of the purple hybrids has - again - the correct genetics to make greens.

I want to emphasize that this is not the case for all hybrids. If you want to play it safe, you can always 'clone' hybrids, by not letting them breed with any other flower. They will duplicate themselves at some point, with exactly the same genes.

Thanks! To duplicate, do I just water the hybrid with no other flowers in the right surrounding spaces? Just making sure I understand!

Yes, at least not another mum flower. You can place any other flower around it you want, as long as there is room for the baby mum to grow. ;-)

My green mums spawn more green mums on their own. Without a second flower. O_o

Weird.

There's an amazing Flower Breeding Simulator site which can help you work out the steps required to breed Green Mums easily.

Flowers in New Horizons can now have a chance of cloning themselves if they are on their own and are watered!

As the commenter above me mentioned, flowers can now clone themselves !! I’ve had this happen with my blue and purple roses I separated to prevent cross breeding
