PS3 super slim issues?

Not sure if this is where to post.
I bought a super slim today. 500gb.

My boyfriend has been playing it. But were having an issue I can't seem to resolve.

I read up online but found little.
We can play Jak and Daxter, Ni No Kuni, Kingdom Hearts Remix. But as soon as we put beyond two souls in, it makes a noise as if the system is trying to read it. But it doesn't. I know this is a somewhat newer game. And I saw online that has been some others problems.
It will make a noise like the disc is spinning, stops, starts, stops, etc.

It plays all our other games fine. Why this one?
And it's not the game. It's brand new.

The disk could have some sort of issue. And you're 100% sure it's not used right? (misread before)
There's also a chance it's a glitch with the game itself, and it's not reading it properly since sometimes there are issues with games that were designed for the Xbox 360 and brought to the PS3 and they're not optimized properly. It's not always every disk either. Or it's just a bad disk, and something went wrong with it during production. You could always make sure there's no fingerprints or dust on the laser lens inside the PS3 or on the disk itself. If you scuff up the start up point on the disk it's not going to read at all.
If it's not reading and everything else is fine, then it's probably the disk itself somehow and you might need a replacement.
Another thing you can do is if you know someone else with a PS3, let them try the disk and see what happens.


I've had no issues with mine, except once during Fallout New Vegas the thing froze (as that game has been known to do) and the disk system rebooted and showed me the laser reader information and the company logo that produced it on the screen, it screeched and then reset on it's own. But I'm blaming Fallout New Vegas on that one since never has anything ever happened except stuggles with FONV.

It won't play blue ray DVDs either.

It doesn't mean there isn't a flaw with it. You just happened to get a bum system, you should be able to return it and get a replacement or something if it's still within warranty or return dates. It's more unusual for a PS3 to crap out, but remember there was a time when people would red ring on their brand new Xbox 360s.
:/ I'd personally try to talk to the store about a replacement if you can. Hopefully they won't defer you to Sony.

I might still comb the internet for a reason why it's not working. I tried looking myself and naturally they're not help whatsoever. A bunch of whiners and people who can't say what their issue is clearly enough. But the ones that said games or bluray aren't reading say the disk drive might be or has already failed. I hate to say it but I think Playstation is known for disk drivers farting out once and a while. You should be fine getting a replacement though, meaning lightening shouldn't strike twice and even if it did it shouldn't be for years...

Did you buy a warranty with it? If you did, trade it in because that should cover it. If not, you're sol.

Call Sony directly and speak to them, or call the place you bought it from and discuss their return/exchange policy. I hope to god you kept your receipt because you may very well need it.

Like those before me have said, buying something brand new doesn't always mean it'll be 100% flawless; there are "defects" in every manufactured product line and it sounds like you got one of 'em. I myself got a Wii that won't recognize GC discs when inserted, despite it also being brand new, fresh out of the box. Also spent a while working for a certain chain of video game stores and had my share of returns because brand new games or systems were essentially dead on arrival. It sucks but it happens.

Sony's customer service folks have always been a doll to me and walked me through whatever process was necessary to fix my problems - however, if your vendor won't do an exchange or return for you, you may be looking at a fee to have Sony themselves repair it and the shipping process might take a while. Just letting you know what you're getting into.

Well I bought it from gamestop. Where I work. XD
I just made my coworker give me a different one. Seems to be working fine now.
