Pros and cons of restarting my town?

First off, I probably wouldn't bother putting so much thought into it, but I've never deleted a town. Not in AC1, Wild World, City Folk, or New Leaf. But, because of college, I've probably put the least amount of time into New Leaf and haven't touched it in a couple years. Now that I've graduated, I'd like to get back into playing because I miss it. I logged back in yesterday and my town is alright, but it's not satisfying to play--I barely remember doing anything, so I don't know what kinds of projects I had going or anything. There are path tiles, flower hybrids, my house is nearly paid in full, etc., but I barely remember doing it.

So, pros of restarting my town:
- Clean slate--it'll feel like my town again
- Restart/keep track of projects
- Less trash to clean up (lots of junk laying around)
- Can restart with all new mechanics from the amiibo update

Cons:
- Empty catalogue
- Empty storage--no more rare items, though I think I had some fairly rare items and sold them
- Down-graded stores
- Empty patterns

If I do decide to restart, I guess I could try to find someone to help me transfer a few items, like my tools.

I'm not sure what to do. Can anyone persuade me either way? Is there anyone who regrets restarting their town, or someone who's glad they did?

One of your cons can be solved fairly easily - when you restart, if you choose to start a new town immediately when Isabelle asks, Tom Nook will offer to buy your town and will give you the option of keeping or selling your catalogue!

I chose to restart for much the same reason as you, I needed it to feel like my town again and I have to say I am much happier now. I know what's going on, losing my museum and stores was tough but I've enjoyed building them up again. It has to be about what makes it more enjoyable for you!

If your town is old enough I think your town tree has to be at stage 5 or higher, you can sell your town to Tom Nook for bells and keep your catalog.

Well there would be plenty of people on here that would help you transfer items and plenty of people who you can buy items from so that would not be too much of an issue. I reset my wild world town and regretted it. I had a good 7 years of memories on it and ive been too depressed to really develop a better town or anything on it. I think once it stops feeling like your town you should reset. I suggest playing on it for a few more days and really feeling out whether or not you really want to reset though.

Well, I can only tell you that, from my perspective, I?m just glad that my original town is nonexistent now. Because it was a bother and I didn?t find anything to do in the days, so I ended up bored and lazy, so I started to TT to get good PWPs and events happening. Great mistake. I came to hate the whole layout of my town, the villagers (except some of them), simply everything. So I sold my town for a good amount (37 MIL IGB, lol), and restarted the game. And now I?m definitively happy with my town, even if it?s not exactly perfect.

I could say that the pros to this are that you can easily sell your town if you want a headstart and begin rebuilding fast, and that you can easily pick the map of your town and maybe have a chance to see new villagers that you might like (Like me and Jacques).

I would say that the cons of doing this is that you?re more prone to reset the town (as in, you find something you completely dislike, and instead of working around it, you just... end up resetting again, and it?s a neverending cycle of pain). Also, how long it takes to rebuild your town when you have nothing to work with, except your tools.
