So, this Wii that I have was great.

Until it stopped reading every single disk except Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and even when playing that the game will eventually just crash about after 1/2 of a 2-minute battle--and that's only if you speedrun to get into the brawl.

Software (Pok?mon Rumble, TLoZ on NES, Netflix, the like) still works fine, heck, I even think that the various Homebrew applications that I have work perfectly.

It is also the cheaper hardware model (can't remember the official name for it) that can not play GameCube games.

While I guess it doesn't really matter (I might buy a Wii U like really soon) it's kind of disappointing not being able to play the various games that I loved--and still do--on the original console.

So, anybody have any suggestions? Or should I just obtain and then use a cleaner made for this sort of thing?

And really sorry if this is in the wrong section...

I don't know... I have a Wii U now and can play Wii games on it just fine EXCEPT Mario Kart Wii. The Wii suddenly stopped being able to read the disc and the Wii U does the same thing. I've tried cleaning it many many times, so I don't know. Makes me sad cuz I really liked Mario Kart Wii. There was just something about it that made me love it. Was it the graphics? Tracks? Voices? I don't know, but I really loved it.

Do you care about GameCube games and have these ports built-in in that Wii? If yes, then I would recommend getting it fixed. Otherwise, it's just best to get a Wii U as you will definitely get a slightly clearer 480p display with the HDMI cable.

It's possible that your Wii console has a problem with the lens. The first thing you want to do is to clean it. If you can't get the lens to read the discs properly or are unable to clean it, contact Nintendo and have the lens replaced.

Maybe yer disc has scratches or faint marks on them, other than that I don't really know

Thanks to everyone whom has thus far contributed! I'll probably just clean the internal lens and see where that gets me to.
