so anyone who who actively watches anime is no stranger to this term. how do you cope with it?

honestly i hate all the "post ___ depression" things. ik that this isn't what the discussion is about, but you aren't suffering from depression because the concert is over or because you have finished an anime smh
just call it post anime sadness/emptiness or whatever not depression ffs

but ot, ye. I usually sit there and then i don't want to watch anything else for a while.......
usually discussing a really good series online, reading the manga or listening to the op/ed will help, too. lmao.

i remember feeling super empty after I finished hxh and zetsuen no tempest. well, with hxh i was more exhausted than sad because i had watched more than 100 episodes in just a few days...,, then i felt empty because it was all over, but i was also kind of happy that it was over because holy sht i had watched a whole ton of it

Fullmetal Alchemist, first anime i ever watched, i got really sad then i finished the Manga, Brotherhood and Both movies now i'm watching several others

I feel really relieved finishing an anime or manga, or whatever it is.

I hate knowing I've still got a load more episodes left to watch ;-;

listening to the OP/ED doesnt really help for me. it just makes me sadder. i listened to hxh's OP and i cried.

I've never gotten depression from any anime except Grave of the Fireflies. And anyone who has watched Grave of the Fireflies knows exactly why I say that.

What are you getting depression from anime? Because it ends? You can always watch it again.

but it doesn't continue ): no matter how many times I watch hxh I won't see what new things Killua and Gon are doing.... idk it's hard to explain but watching it again really doesn't help me ;;

what's next, post breadstick depression? 'I finished a breadstick and now I have depression'

hmm, if i remember correctly, grave of fireflies is actually a movie? anyway, to answer your question, some people get depressed after an anime ends because it feels like losing some of your friends. you love a character so much it hurts just to think they cease to exist after that anime ends. basically, its like losing a loved one,at least,to me. some people find rewatching an anime boring as they already know the plot.

I know that. And yeah, it's sad to an extent when it's over. But there's nothing you can really do about it. At least anime generally gets completed! Some of my favorite American TV shows were cancelled and so don't really have a good conclusion. :(

All things come to an end, so maybe that's why I'm not sad. Anime ends, books end, video games end (most do anyway), etc.

Yeah. The non-spoiler description of that movie is it takes place during World War II in Japan when the country is getting fire bombed (not talking about the atomic bombs). The main characters are young children. From that description alone, I think you can imagine bad things are going to happen.

I understand the emptiness after finishing a tv show/anime and missing the fun watching it but I wouldn't go as far to call it a depressive syndrome lol

lol that's what I think, too....., I find it disrespectful to those who actually have any kind of depression

listen

realizing you've finished all the delicious breadsticks (or other food), reaching for another, and then realizing there's none left hits hard. real hard

yeah, i'm pretty sure having legitimate depression is a lot worse than the ending of an anime lmao

I know the feels since I ran out of Nutella yesterday (cries) but it's not depressive syndrome worthy!

i usually just get super mad and look for a new anime to watch.

i'm struggling over the lack of gangsta right now..

I used to suffer from sadness (not depression, tho that's a bit extreme) when I was younger and watching anime, but now not so much anymore. Just get over it lol.

Anime nowadays are cutting things short due to animation budget, and they aren't animating the full series anymore. A few years back, they would animate the entire story, and if it made money, whoop whoop, but if it didn't make money, their company would suffer a huge hit. They would then proceed to make another show and if it was a hit, yay, but if it flopped welp that sucked ;;; that business practice unfortunately lead to many companies loosing money fast until eventually they would be forced to go on hiatus or go out of business.
With anime being such a competitive industry now, many companies are doing the whole "let's only make 12 episodes and if it does well we will animate a little more of the series"
12 episodes is literally 4-5 volumes of a manga so it really sucks when they conclude a series that only barely got into the main story line. A perfect example of a company doing this is with the anime Natsume Yuujinchou; they currently have 4 seasons, each 13 episodes, all of them aired 2-3 years apart, and we still haven't gotten to the main story line rip
That is also why, older shows such as pokemon and naruto have so many episodes. They were made during the time where animation companies wanted to animate the whole story, and due to its major sucess, they continued it until there's over 9000 episodes. I think making a show with as many episodes as pokemon that continues to make an income is like the ultimate goal of an animation company LOL.

Anyway, back on topic.I get over it pretty quickly now bc the manga is usually still ongoing when I finish a 12 episode anime like noragami, so I just read it instead. I watch and read a lot of anime and manga tho, so I usually go back to catching up with older series when I'm feeling "post anime depression"

But seriously it's not depression you're just sad lol

please don't call it "depression" when it very obviously isn't. i don't mean to personally attack you or anything, but keep others in mind when mentioning such things. you come off as insensitive, like you're trying to demean people that actually have it and go through it.

anyway, i've been SAD about finishing an anime, sure. i finally got the guts to watch the rest of my childhood anime, inuyasha, and i almost bawled my eyes out. i finished marmalade boy, another childhood anime, and i began frantically searching for the gba/snes games online to fill the void. school rumble and rose of versailles made me truly cry, since i was so attached to the characters and the endings of both weren't exactly happy (at least to me). i wanted more than there was.

but then i remember that they're fictional characters and i go on with my life after a few days, so.
