Recently I decided I wanted to restart my Platinum, because I haven't played it for a while, so what's the use of keeping the save file? But, then I realized I couldn't, because I started remembering all the pokemon I had on it, all the battles I had on it, and the contests, everything. I know it sounds silly because I could just transfer them to my X, but I don't want to. I just feel like they belong on that game. It was the first pokemon game I got on release day, so it just means a lot to me (yes, I know it's really weird). Should I just restart and transfer, or should I get a second copy (about how much would that cost)? Thanks :).

Just restart.

Back when I was younger I must have restarted my Pokemon games several times each, and I'd get all the way to the end of them each time, collect as many Pokemon as possible. Then, I'd just delete the file and start over.

Memories are memories and they don't change just because what started them is no longer around. In reality your save file means about as much as a speck of dirt. None of those Pokemon are special, nor the rest of it. It's something that you can get again. The memories you had are the only things of value to you, but those memories are not the file itself. One day you won't have that save file, guaranteed. Either it will corrupt over time or you'll lose the cartridge, for example, but eventually it's gone anyway. It doesn't mean anything in the end.

That was really deep.

And i couldnt take an ounce of it seriously because of that profile pic

Nothing on your Pokemon game is permanent. You can restart, transfer your Pokemon back and get them medals/badges. The only thing that will ever change is your trainer ID number and name. Unless you reeeeally care about that, reset. (if you do, reset anyways because that's dumb.)

There might be sentimental value or whatever, but it's associated with the Pokemon, not the game. You think "my mudkip is awesome", not "oh, I remember the time I dropped the cartridge on the floor". (even if you do, it's still the same cartridge)

I used to think the same thing when it came to transferring Pokemon to the next game. It turns out that when I didn't transfer Pokemon, I didn't use them or pay attention to them much. But after I transferred them from an older game I barely touched, I could always keep them with me in a game that I am currently playing and be reminded of those days (much more often than when I didn't move them at all).

I finally transferred all my Pokemon from my old RSE and FRLG all the way up to the X/Y and I don't regret it. And now that I've done that, I can finally play whichever all over again.

So you can probably see where I'm going with this: I'd say transfer and restart.

Pokemon games are also still expensive, even after 5 years. Platinum ranges from $45-90.

I would just restart, especially if you are short on money. As kite said, Pokemon games tend to still be rather expensive even when second-hand. I've seen copies of Pokemon in shops used for ?30, which is about $50. If you find you'll miss you 'mon, then you can always transfer them over, and then get them to your new file back later on.

Move 'em. If they're on the current gen you might even find yourself using them again rather than leaving them to moulder in a half-forgotten box on a dusty cart forever. Don't you want to see your oldest and most faithful bros doing the happy dance in Pokemon Amie over a cupcake? :3c

I'd restart, but that's because I have a cheat code for life.

By which I mean an Action Replay DS with save back-up functionality. So if I want to play my completed, 5-star Trainer Card, 493/493 Pokedex Platinum game for whatever reason (I have no reason), I can just load it onto the cart.

I would say restart as well. If you have Pokemon that are special to you, like Shinies etc, I would transfer those to another one of your games and then restart and start anew.

It's how I usually do it. Make sure my favorite Pokemon (max of 3 normally) are on another game and start new. I usually don't transfer the Pokemon back, cuz you'll just get new Pokemons again and make the adventure with them.

I have all sorts of cool memories from my old games, but I'll always remember them, when I'm looking at the pokes I had in those games. I don't mind restarting, cause I still can keep all my Pokemon. Anyway, if you have done a lot of things and played like 1000 hours I totally understand that you don't want to restart, I mean I bought Pokemon X, cause I couldn't restart my Y because of that.
A new copy isn't even expensive, so I think it's totally worth it.
