Pokemon: First Movie

I've never heard of that scene. Interesting. Maybe they took it out because it was too sad? But if I think harder, they let Latios and Lucario die. So I don't see why they cut it out.

It was released with a PG13 rating in Japan, but they removed the Amber scenes in America to make it more kid-friendly.

It was cut. Amber appears as a speaking character in the first fifteen minutes of the first Pok?mon film in its Japanese version, known as Myuutsuu no Gyakushuu. The film was released in Japan with a PG13 rating, as the original dialogues were a lot deeper and the appearance of Amber as a human clone and her death were considered unsuitable for a younger audience. The original aim of the director was to create a good and meaningful animation film, that could help audiences to understand how Pok?mon was not "kid stuff". This aim was reached only in the Japanese version, as 4Kids just cut out the piece with Amber and made the dialogues a lot less deep, in order to make this film more kids-friendly - the exact opposite of the director's idea. The piece with Amber was later dubbed and added as a special content in Mewtwo Returns; the dialogues were translated almost perfectly. Here are her best dialogues with Mewtwo. They could be added.

It's on youtube if you want to check it out. It adds way more depth to the movie, I don't see why they would take it out.

I think they included it with Mewtwo: Returns as a bonus feature and as kid I'm not sure how I would have reacted to the clone scene. Well I probably would have been fine, but my somewhat religious parents would probably had problems with human cloning.

Wait... Is Mewtwo a failed clone of a kid?

Mewtwo is a modified clone of Mew, the only successful clone the scientists created. There were four other clones beside him, Charmander, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and one of the scientist's daughter. The other Pokemon died first during the process, then after a while the girl did, and then only Mewtwo survived.

I didn't know this. I assume it's just on the original Japanese version of the film?

I suppose? It was later on included in the DVD release of Mewtwo Returns as a special "short" and then I think Cartoon Network aired it during their replay of Genesect Awakened.
