the way they were wording it made me think so... but i guess they weren't really definitive about it at all? they put a lot of focus on "the pokemon games evolving" so it seemed like it would be the next gen....
if it is, wtf wheres the sequel for X and Y! Z!
if it isn't next gen, thats annoying, and makes no sense name wise!

Yeah, way they said it and the fact there's the new bird Pokemon seem to imply it's gen 7, but I don't see why they wouldn't outright say its a new generation in this direct. I found it confusing. I'm gonna say it's gen 6 for now until further notice.
Pokemon S&M could easily be a sequel tho. They don't need to put a blatantly obvious 2 on the end for it to be a sequel.

If its 6.5 it might be a time lapse like BW/BW2, but more changes happed to kalos, and more pokemon came to live there, since the trainer before S/M defeated Lysandre and caught Xerneas/ Yveltal. Now, some other organization wants to use both zygarde core(s?) to do something lol.
In the XYZ anime there are 2 zygarde cores. Maybe one is related to the sun and the other to the moon?

Pokemon S&M oh lord...... I just really liked how all the sequels were related, so doing this just really really annoys me if it is the successor to X and Y

I don't think they'd tease it that way for a sequel tho, it seems like a special game to celebrate the 20th Anniversary, but not necessarily the next gen

I'm actually hoping it's a Gen 6 game. If X and Y are the only games for gen 6(other then ORAS), I'm going to be more disappointed in it then I already am. Gen 6 is just so...bland, a lot of cool things I see they would continue(ghost girl,AZ,lore) that they left cold in X & Y. I'm hoping Moon & Sun will be some type of region or area part of kalos at least.
And the new Pokemon that seem to be being made could be for that area in kalos to remedy the few Pokemon orginally indroduced in gen 6.
Also I really like the way they indroduced the games. That little evolution of Pokemon was a real hit in the feels.

Considering that right before tge actual announcement, they listed off the years that each gen was released (w/snippets of footage from each gane), and then said, "And now, in 2016, Sun and Moon"; I think that's pretty good evidence.
