Pings on Events or Holidays

Since today is the fishing tourney, can I still get pings? I tried a few times but it's not happening.

Not until after it finishes, and you also need to speak to a villager first to allow the pings to happen (when they say the whole congratulations stuff if you win etc).

You only get pings after 6 PM, which is when they tourney concludes.

Like the rest said, only after 6Pm which is the rewards ceremony~
