Perfect Fruit and Fertilizer?

Sorry if this information is elsewhere, but I have been searching prolifically for a while and can't seem to find an answer.

The wiki, and many other places mention that perfect fruit can be attained by burying fertilizer next to a tree, but doesn't offer any more specific information. When/where do you bury this fertilizer? Must it be planted next to a sapling, or next to an adult tree after the fruit has been shaken off of it? Does burying the fertilizer with a golden shovel really increase the chances?

I have marked the trees in my town I would like to make into perfect fruit trees (I am trying to make some "bare" trees for a late autumn themed town, so I'm on a bit of a time limit), and I have been habitually shaking them clean every few days and burying fertilizer next to them with a golden shovel. So far, no perfect fruit, but I don't know if I just have been unlucky.

I believe your best bet would be to bury the fertilizer directly next to a sapling either as soon as you plant the sapling, or the day before the tree goes into full bloom. Unfortunately it's extremely difficult to tell when exactly to bury it since you're not always guaranteed a perfect fruit tree when burying a fertilizer next to it.

I'm pretty sure though that you don't bury it after it's fully grown. By then I think it's already programmed as a certain type of fruit tree. I'd try your luck with burying fertilizers against trees at different stages of growth. You're bound to get a perfect fruit eventually, and once you do you can just start burying that and not have to rely on fertilizers.

you can buy fertilizer as soon as you get the nookling store to its last upgrade, the emporium! and you just bury it right next to the tree/flower, i don't think it matters if it's a sapling or not although i'd just do it while it's an adult? but yeah, using a gold shovel does just from what i know xD if you want you can visit my town and buy fertilizer in my store or if you need perfect cherries i have those ^_^;

Just in case you - or someone reading this - are not aware you can only get perfect fruit from the fruit that originally appears in your town - you can tell the first day, it is the only type of fruit trees on the map.

If you really want perfect fruit trees in your town you can look for people in the train station here on the boards and post that you are looking for perfect fruit.

Bury one perfect fruit in the spot where you want the eventual dead trees, water it, and a perfect fruit tree will grow!

Thank you all so much for your help. I will try to bury at various stages to test, but I think H-Star is right in that I should probably just suck it up and buy some/trade for some perfect apples.

If anyone reading this wants to do a little trade for a few perfect apples, I'm open for it.

why not just get some from this forum and u can start breeding perfect fruits without fertilizers. must be your native fruit
