So I've never pathed or landscaped a town before because design is not really my thing, but I decided to give it a try in my new town. I'm making one section a desert since my town's name is Cacturne, and I already found a cool desert sand path. I'm putting the hot springs (to make an oasis) and pyramid PWPs in this area. The problem is I don't really know what do with the rest of my town. I don't want it all to be a desert but I'm not sure what else would match. And then I don't know where to find good paths or how to go about it really. Any advice you expert landscapers can give would be appreciated!

You might want to visit lots of dream towns for inspiration. Be sure to screenshot the areas you particularly like.
My two favorite QR creators are sinreiinfinity and bibidesign, although I'm not sure if their styles are what you're looking for.

Well I don’t know what your map looks like but I’d try and keep the desert in one corner or side of your river. So you can sort of use the river as the transition into the rest of your town... if that makes sense?
Or if your map doesn’t allow for that I’d transition away from the desert by adding sparse flowers and shrubs then make them denser as you go further from your desert area and then do what ever landscaping you want from there!

I feel like you could easily go from desert to a town or maybe even like a beach theme on the other side. Heck even a forest theme if you wanted. There are no rules!
Personally though I think I would go from desert to a really urban sort of town... think Las Vegas! Like how Vegas is smack in the middle of the desert irl. You could use all the modern, illuminated, fountain PWP’s for that.
Or you could use the fairytale pwp theme becasue the Fairytale Town Hall and Train station give me like Moroccan/Indian desert vibes and also open you up to using a more colorful path through your dusty desert if that’s your jam!
Zen as a theme could also be cool to go from desert to like a watery oasis on the other side of your map maybe even with some water paths

Anyways I hope this was at least a little helpful! Good luck on that desert town!

This was super helpful thank you! I love all these ideas - it's going to be hard to decide! My desert is on the other side of a river (and kind of enclosed in the dip of the river) so transitioning shouldn't be too bad :) I'll put up a picture of my map tomorrow if I remember to give people a better idea of what I'm working with.

I don't want to hijack someone else's thread, but are if someone was to create a pattern for grass, would it look like the New Leaf grass and blend into the color scheme? Or is it obviously a squared pattern? I have never used patterns before.

If you're doing a desert theme, I would put a lot of withered trees to go with the deserted sand look. Have a lot of open area with just sand QR paths and the typical desert PWPs. Maybe some bush shrubs here and there. You could increase the number of bushes/trees gradually as you transition into the next area that may have more green and foliage. There was a really good desert DA i saw a long time ago but I can't find the address anymore. But if I remember correctly, they used a "bamboo x shrub x bamboo x shrub" type border to block off desert area from non-desert area, so the "sand floor pattern" was less jarring to transition out of. Just cordoning off the desert area from the rest of the town might make it easier to landscape the non-desert area. I'd suggest just doing a wild forest with lots of greenery to offset the sandy desert look. I don't know if I'm making sense but yeah :'D

Thanks for the advise on how to transition! Today I laid out some spots for bamboo/shrubs at the end of the desert area as you suggested. I'm so excited to see it all come together!

Here's my map and what I am planning right now:

The area labelled "D" is where the desert is. Above that and transitioning into that I'm thinking of having a city-esque area like IPeachy suggested. Then on the other side of the river, where the campsite is I want to have a forest, and then below the townhall where all the houses are I was thinking just a grassy meadow. I already have windmill and topiary PWPs there and I don't really want to destroy them. So there will be like four different sectors of my town if it all works out.
