Rather than putting unnatural looking designs everywhere, why don't you put designs where you want the paths, and then get a bunch of people to run up and down the paths like 50 or so times, and then TT to the next day? The grass would probably wear, making more natural-looking paths that can look really nice, if it's organized.
A lot of people actually do that. I like having the paths though, because I designed them myself. They dont look out of place if you line them with flowers.
The link to my blog with my paths is in my sig if you want to take a look.
I have an idea for Paving in the next Animal Crossing:
What if paths could be created as PWPs!
Lets say, you talk to Isabelle and say you want to create a path for the next project, she asks for either a design from you or a stock design that goes with the other themed PWPs, she then she gives you 10 markers to place on the ground which represents where the path will be. Lloyd appears either at the train station or the town hall and asks for donations for its completion.
The game can then identify that what you have placed is a path and have it behave like the cobblestone outside the various town buildings and have villagers use it as their preferred method of getting around. The path could also be randomly seeded, giving it the seamless look of the cobblestone paving already present in the game.
Deletion of the paths could be with Isabelle following you as you are holding a sledgehammer or a can of spray paint, to mark the unwanted paths which would be removed the next day!
I think there might be a limit as to how much grass can wear in a day.
I was running around in one spot yesterday for quite a while and Today, it just looks the same.
this may be expensive, but you could build PWP and then demolish them for really quick grass wear.
you know, when you set up the PWP donations area with loid, does that make grass deterioration? because then you could just start a project, then immediately stop donations. time travel to the next day and do the same thing. but i don't know if this will work.
