I need some advice with laying down some paths in my town, it's getting really frustrating.

My main issue is that I have 4 villagers right where I want my paths. I know I could simply go round them but then when they move out and I put the path where I want it, there's gonna be a massive line of grass wear. I also like to use my paths to position my PWP so having paths in 'temporary' places would mean no PWP for a while.

The second issue is that I simply can't find a path that suits my town. And the ones I really like use up 8 slots and I'm not going to make a second character just for paths.

Then there's the idea of just using flowers and creating natural paths, which I really like the idea of. But then I'm undecided about 1 or 2-width paths. 2 width looks really wide for a natural path, it just looks like a lot of dirt. But then 1-width natural paths will annoy me because when it gets to bridges and stuff it'll not match up (if this makes any sense)

Has anyone else had any of these dilemmas and how did you overcome them? Any advice is much appreciated! I really want to get my town sorted!

Check out my tumblr for some paths.. kumacrossing.tumblr.com

I use a mix of 2-width and 1-width paths with a pink brick pattern. The one thing about the 1-width path with flowers along it, is that it takes a bit of concentration to stay on the paths and not run all over the flowers along the side.

Make more characters and use them for their pattern space and locker space. Use them to place your paths, so that you can use your main character for other stuff.
Save patterns with Mable, so you don't have to keep re-scanning QR's.
The best paths, are usually always ones that require 8-9 patterns. The ones with borders at the edges.

All you need is one main path, that uses 8-9 patterns, then once you place those, you can use anything else you want. It takes one character to hold the main path :3

I use 4 characters myself. One thing to think about, is that you don't have to get these paths perfect on the first try. Just place them down, and fix them over time. It only happens, if you try o:
It's best to start from one side, and work your way across. I started mine from the train station, downward.

Hope that helps

(Btw I have a friend named KerryElizabeth, you both use the same hairstyle D: )

I use 1 block wide paths except any that connect with the bridge, those are 2 wide. I use a simple 1 pattern tile path I made myself though. I'm not sure how more complex paths would behave if you tried that. It doesn't look fantastic, but it suits my laziness. :P

I have some paths on my blog that only take up 1-3 spaces depending on your preference. The link can be found in my signature below. I use them in a 2x2 path alternating the Mossy Tile and Mossy Path.

I can relate to your problems! Early on, pretty much every single neighbor I had was on top of a pathway I wanted to make. My solution was to work the path patterns around their houses, but when I was actually using the paths, I would make sure to slow down and walk around a villager's house, so that the grasswear effect would be lessened. But when villagers move out, the place where their house used to be turns to a dirt spot, so a bit of grasswear is inevitable.

I'd maybe suggest making your own patterns if no one else's appeals to you. That's what I did, and my path patterns might not appeal to everyone, but I personally like them a lot and feel that they fit my town better than someone else's paths could. Path-making isn't too hard (especially bricks), and it helps if you google real-life paths and things for inspiration.

For natural paths, maybe you could find a way to make a narrow dirt path gradually get wider -- in a natural-looking fashion -- as it approaches the bridge. I have both two-space and one-space-wide dirt paths in different parts of town, and I agree that the one-space-wide paths look nicer, but the two-space-wide paths sure are a lot more convenient; I feel much safer running on those. I'm thinking of experimenting with putting some stepping stone-esque patterns on the two-space-wide dirt paths to see if that makes them look nicer... and less brown. xP

I think a well-decorated house with some gardens and PWPs nearby can be an extremely beautiful addition to town, so I love having multiple characters (since that means more pretty houses in town), even though I don't really play with my extra characters like I do for my mayor character. They're of course very handy for storage purposes (patterns, closet space, etc.) as well. But there are nice patterns without all the border pieces if you really don't want extra characters. :) For inspiration, I'd suggest the dream address 1700 0292 4432 -- she has a nice single-piece path around town (brown bricks).

Thanks for the advice and for the dream address - that town is stunning! And it has definitely given me some ideas :D

Waste of time replying here

Placing paths is not even hard as everyone makes it to be.

Sorry :S I read your comment and it did help, I just didn't think it would be necessary to reply to every single post. Sorry if I offended you :/

So thank you to everyone who commented, I read every comment and the advice has really helped - I have my paths all sorted out now!
