Has anyone felt like people take this game a little.. too seriously?
The most serious amount of money I've had to give as a tip for turnips was a couple hundred thousand, but I still got to keep a good 2 million. I've also gotten p lucky w NMT amounts for items and villagers. But some people charge way too much for items, turnips and even villagers? Like it's crazy, the highest I've charged is 30 NMT for a certain villager (to save up for island hops) and I didn't even know that was possible, I've been on this forum for years and still don't know prices for anything
I feel like only the rich ac players can thrive.
Then the scammers are a whole new story, they've been bad as long as we remember.
Do any of you have any experiences with or opinions on crazy prices or scams?
I don't mind high chargers, I just ignore them and keep searching for better deals. The most I do is share it with a friend and be like ''wow, they are really charging this?'' but I do not harass or try to scam them (sadly I know an user -not from here- that takes pride in scamming these users and in my eyes that makes him worse than the person with high prices).
Scammers? I hate them, more so when we're talking about those who use dreamies to scam. I may not have dreamies per se, but I know how happy people can be when finally getting that character that is so appealing to them/ holds some kind of deep meaning. So I hate when people play with other's feelings when it comes to it. Luckily, slowly people are learning and sharing tips to search for red flags and to avoid this kind of situations.
My experience was a funny one, because someone thought I was a scammer because I wasn't charging anything for taking one villager that was moving out of my island. I give away my villagers (I do receive tips sometimes, I accept them but it's not required), so I felt sad about someone taking a simple act of kindness as some kind of scheme. Luckily they realized that there was no risk, as they only had to come to my island, and we had a good laugh about it too ^^
well i mean, it’s not necessarily the person selling him’s fault (or anyone’s), but when i see auctions for raymond, the bids are crazy high. like i know he’s new, probably most wanted villager in the game and he doesn’t have an amiibo card yet, but i see bids so high. i’ve seen people give over 200 million bells, 3k+ NMT, etc. i think it’s too much, but i understand they don’t want others to beat them.
i was lucky enough for my friend to get him and she didn’t want him, so i got him for 3 million bells lol
Scammers are by far, much worse than high chargers. With high chargers, at least there is something they are providing. And if you don't like the price, you can always say no and go look for something cheaper.
High chargers are just greedy, but in the end they usually will come through. That is, unless they are a scammer too. Scammers are despicable and even though this is “just a game”, it says a lot about their character in life. I’ve made honest mistakes trading or selling on here and vice versa, but I own it and inform the other party as soon as I can because it’s the right thing to do.
Having it being during quarantine is a main problem because nobody has anything better to do than to take this game 100% seriously. That's a main problem. That said, a lot of people take this game too seriously in general.
While I personally kinda hate high-chargers and of course scammers, there's not much you can do about high-chargers unless they are scammers. If people are willing to pay that price for something then they've got the right too! And people will happily capitalize on that- in a way its a win-win.
It does make some sought-after things really hard to get though, for people who are poorer in-game or don't have a lot to offer. I see a lot of people, including myself, who like to give away things for free or for a cheap, cheap price out of kindness. I only ask for what I need at the time in a lot of my deals and I hope that seems fair to people. At the end of the day I feel it balances out.
Scammers are the worst of the bunch, followed by people who charge crazy high prices for stuff. I tend to just ignore them completely and trade or buy from elsewhere. =/
I have been lucky enough not to deal with scammers yet, but people who use dreamies to try to get large amounts of NMT or IGB are gross since they're getting another player's hopes up and then taking away their hard work.
Over-Chargers are kind of annoying? I've seen a few people trying to make people pay like 10 nmt just to enter their town to sell turnips which seems kind of much when I'm just running in for like 2 minutes at most. I normally just try to find people just asking for tips or reasonable fees like 1-2 nmt or some materials. I've also seen someone trying to sell their crafting service for like 5x 99k bell bags when they have the materials provided to them by the person whose asking for the item to be crafted? Seems kind of weird.
high chargers are just fine, it's business I guess.
scammers on the other hand are pathetic and have really nothing better in their lifes than ruining someone's day.
Scammers are terrible. I've never experienced it, but I've heard plenty of stories. Somebody is generously giving you something and you're really going to take a bunch of things that are not yours??
Now the over-charging thing just confuses me. Price value of things is very subjective, I know that. But it cost's you nothing to travel to other people's islands or let people in. When it comes to selling items or fruits or recipes or something, why sell it for 10x it's value? It's kind of unreasonable. 2x? That seems more reasonable to me. For people to sell turnips, why charge them if it costs you nothing to open your gates to them? Especially for newer players who are trying to build up their islands. If you're well off and they aren't, maybe you shouldn't charge them a million bells? And the whole NMT overpricing thing is pretty ridiculous in my mind. But then again, these are all my opinions. People are allowed to play the game their way, sell their things and services for their own price.
ive literally found people asking for millions in exchange for one turnip trip.
Dont accept these high price deals. The reason these exist is because some people are desperate enough to fall for them, and this just continues the cycle
my opinion is that i get my popcorn ready on sundays and read all the hilarious shenanigans, uprisings, and memes in the ac discord turnip channels. it's honestly so funny to me, mostly because there are always reasonable people everywhere and you just gotta keep scrolling until you find them.
I just ignore them and wait until a better deal comes along for high chargers. There's so many people playing NH right now that you're going to get a better deal if you're patient.
For scammers, I just rely on feedback (for TBT) and karma (for Reddit). I haven't been scammed yet in NH, but I have in NL due to being too trusting of users with little rep and I usually just ask them to go first to protect myself if I have the higher reputation. It's much harder with something like Discord where there's no feedback system so I don't trade there.
In any game I always think that a person can and should play that game however they want too, with the only exception being if what they do negatively impacts another player in which case it should not be allowed.
So I have zero issues with people selling at high prices or otherwise requiring a high or extortionate seeming requirement for something. As it doesn't negatively impact my game experience or anyone else's in my opinion.
I will only interact with other players if I find what they offer acceptable, if I don't then I do not get involved with them
Nothing in this game (as far as I know) is completely unobtainable to me if I just play the game. All other players offer me is the choice to speed up obtaining an item or service.
However anyone scamming or abusing game bugs etc to make gains for themselves at the detriment to another person I in no way agree with.
And I will have zero sympathy for them should karma catch up to them... Preferably in the form of a complete and utter ban from Nintendo.
Scammers=trash. I hate people who scam others. Especially on a game like Animal Crossing. Like what is the point? Honestly, I am so thankful I've never wanted to or felt the need to scam someone over some pixels. Yeesh.
High chargers are fine and they're not even in the same category. If I had a Raymond I was looking to sell why would I ask for an iron nugget and 2 NMT when I could easily get 1000 NMT for him? If people are willing to pay for something, I don't see why you wouldn't charge it. Doesn't mean that I personally would ever purchase a villager for that amount or even ask someone else to pay me that much for a villager lol. I personally find island hopping much more fun and rewarding than buying a villager from someone online as I have in previous titles. My opinion is: if you want someone to give you an item, villager, or service then you should pay what they're asking and quit complaining about their prices. Don't like them? Find someone else or go out and find your own.
Saying high chargers and scammers are on the same level is quite a dangerous statement. If someone is requesting an exorbitant amount of money, I simply choose to ignore it. Speak with your wallet (or pockets in this case).
Scammers are terrible people, but people who have a high charge don't really deserve a lot of dislike. They are taking their time out of their day to allow you to do whatever you need, so they set the price. Now, there ARE prices where you can consider it unreasonable but when you're going to there to say, sell turnips, and you're making multiple trips and walking away with 5 million bells, I don't think it is wrong of them to ask for 10%-20% of it as a fee.
I've always given 10-20% of my turnip profits as a tip/fee, just feels like the kind thing to do, but if someone wants like 10 NMT per visit then yeah mate that's expensive lol.
