one of my villagers moved without telling me?

i haven’t played the game in about a week. i was just walking around my town looking for the owner of a lost item and i see that one of my villager’s houses was gone!! how did this happen and does this happen often??

Villagers will simply leave on their own if you don't stop them from moving. It was super annoying to be paranoid any time I had to go anywhere for a few days without my 3DS.

Villagers will move out without telling you if you don't talk to them regularly. Once they decide to leave, you have 10 days to stop them. On the 10th day, they will be in boxes and you can't change their mind.

They usually ping you to tell you they are moving, but if you haven't spoken to them in a while or you haven't logged on during that time frame, they will just leave. Sometimes other villagers will also tell you if someone is planning to move.
