Okay, so this thread is to discuss anything about Nuzlocke or Wonderlocke challenges on Pokemon main games. You can talk about anything ranging from the mechanics of the challenges to your own personal past playthroughs doing one of them. I just a day ago started my first ever Wonderlocke and wonder traded for the first time (I know, I'm a noob for not using that feature till now). I've got to say these two things are the only reason I replay Pokemon main games. Right now on my Wonderlocke I am playing it on Pokemon Y and my team is all lvl 18: Honedge, Zigzagoon, Oddish, Foongus, and Zubat. Tbh it's not that great that half my team is weak to fire, but I'm sure I can work around that somehow. I'm currently on Route 6, and I'll update the thread with my playthrough each time I earn a badge. Anyone else have some interesting stories from any Nuzlocke or Wonderlocke challenges?

I was honestly just considering making this topic. O_O Anyhow, though, thanks for making it.

I do understand your weakness, however. Half of my own team is weak to Flying, and even worse is that I don't have an effective counter to it unless I want to take a chance with my Timburr. Currently, my team is: Pignite (Hogden), level 22; Pansage (Bonanza), level 21; Tranquill (Privee), level 22; Drilbur (Chickadee), level 21; and Timburr (Crash), level 21.

At the very least, though, Privee's Air Cutter is effective enough when dealing with Pokemon that the others can't handle.

That's cool, that's a nice team you got there. :)

I recently did a Y Wonderlocke, and my team at the end was
Garchomp
Gardevoir
Altaria
Torterra
Greninja
Blaziken.

I've done a lot of nuzlockes, and variants of nuzlockes. My first one was with Leaf Green (which I even made a short-lived comic about before I discontinued it), and with the exception of going down to Cynthia's Garchomp in Platinum, have yet to fail a 'locke. The only game since FR/LG I didn't do a nuzlocke of was B2/W2, and that was because I got bored of it after the second or third gym, so I never finished it. Emerald and Platinum stand at being the toughest so far.

My favorite type to do would be a wonderlocke, because you never know what's going to come over that trade (though, on the last one I had, I made up an "entry level clause", where I was allowed to re-trade any wurmple, poochyena, and zigzagoon I got since those three pokemon pretty much are on top of the frequent flier miles club. Seriously, 1 out of every 4 people I wondertrade with send over one of those three 'mons).

I also use a rule where I'm not allowed to replace a pokemon on the team unless a team member goes down, which forces me to train pokemon past when they would normally be replaced. For instance, in my first AS nuzlocke, I took a Linoone and a Swellow through the E4 and Champ; in the second run, I took a Mighyena (who even wound up being the MVP) and Cosplay Pikachu through the E4 and Champ.

I'm experimenting with variants of nuzlockes now that there aren't any new games; I've done a wedlocke of OR, as well as a wonderwedlocke (those two variants are tough, especially with limiting rules in regards to items).

Currently, I'm working on a Water Monotype Egglocke run in Pokemon Y. The mons I'm using are actually on the trainer card in my signature, and though I've gotten over the two biggest hurdles for a waterlocke (the grass and electric gyms; Empoleon and Gyarados took care of the grass gym, and Whiscash and Empoleon took on the electric gym).
The fighting gym nearly destroyed me; I lost two mons to that gym, and nearly lost a third one (freak'n Hawlucha...I even knew that thing was gonna be a problem).

I want to try a couple other monotype (egg)lockes, as well as try something called an RPG-locke. I'd also love to record my next 'locke and upload it to Youtube; I just need a capture card or a better camera (as mine can only record up to 10.5 minutes of footage).

Uh...yea...I'm kind of a nuzlocker. XD

Holy crap, how have you only lost once?! Nuzlocke challenges are super tough. I've never even won a challenge. The furthest I've gotten is past the eighth gym on B2/W2, and half my team was obliterated due to Wailord's rollout so I just gave up on it. I'm like the opposite of you. I've never won even one nuzlocke or wonderlocke even though I've played Pokemon since Diamond, know how to play well, and strategize well, and I do challenges on B2/'W2 the most cause the story arc and gameplay on that one are the best imo since Diamond. Everything else is pretty boring.

Anyway, I just beat my second gym in my Wonderlocke on Y, but I didn't know till halfway through my battle that Amaura's ability is what made its take down ice type. And since a lot of my team was weak to ice type I kept switching out and getting hurt badly. My Golbat got killed and I had to release it afterwards because of that. Also, Tyrunt's Bite attack was good against my Honedge and Shuppet, so I had a tough time but only ended up losing my Golbat in the end. Geez, what Grant says when you defeat him about your Pokemon overcoming adversity never applied to me when I got to him till now. I was not prepared for him. Here's my Wonderlocke team right now after beating the second gym for Y:

Level 31 Shuppet: Ghost type
Level 27 Absol (NEW): Dark type
Level 24 Honedge: Ghost/Steel type
Level 24 Vileplume: Grass/Poison type
Level 24 Linoone: Normal type
Level 23 Foongus: Grass/Poison type

EDIT: Another update. Just beat the third gym! Unfortunately Vileplume was killed in Reflection Cave, cause it was going to survive at 5 HP before I switched out or healed it, but it was confused and unfortunately hit its self, killing its self. At least its death made me laugh though. Anyway while I was battling Korrina I put on John Cena - The Time Is Now. I used three different Pokemon for her three, and the last matchup was between her Hawlucha and my Honedge. She maxed her attack stat over a number of turns using Hone Claws, while I maxed my defense stat using Iron Defense. Then I used Swords Dance a couple times. We both attacked at the same time. She used Flying Press which didn't even affect me, then I used Honedge's Aerial Ace which was critical and one hit KO'ed all of Hawlucha's health, and that's when the song ended. Whose boss now, Korrina? That's just how strong my team is:

Level 34 Absol: Dark type
Level 33 Krokorok: Dark/Ground type
Level 33 Honedge: Ghost/Steel type
Level 33 Foongus: Grass/Poison type
Level 33 Shuppet: Ghost type

Bump!

UPDATE! I just beat the fourth gym, unfortunately I've lost some Pokemon along the way, but thanks to that my team is finally diverse now (No types repeated), and I still have opportunities to get new wondertraded Pokemon with types I don't have. Here's my team now:

Level 38 Absol (Soothe Bell): Dark type
Level 38 Doublade (Eviolite): Ghost/Steel type
Level 37 Foongus (Poison Barb): Grass/Poison type

EDIT: Update!

Just beat the fifth gym. My team is unstoppable, and only going to get bigger (Also note that I have not used exp share at all my entire wonderlocke):

Level 53 Magcargo: Fire/Rock type
Level 46 Absol: Dark type
Level 46 Doublade: Ghost/Steel type
Level 45 Amoongus: Grass/Poison type

Well, I was just training... and holy Cheez-Its, I nearly lost Lindsey against a Darumaka. Not going to Desert Resort for a while.

Update! Just beat the sixth gym. Here's my team as of now:

Level 53 Magcargo: Fire/Rock type
Level 48 Absol: Dark type
Level 48 Amoongus: Grass/Poison type
Level 48 Doublade: Ghost/Steel type
Level 48 Torkoal: Fire type

Hey, uh... if you don't mind me asking, do you have a recommended level to defeat Elesa and Clay at on Black? I want to try and avoid as many casualties as possible, so I want to try and get to a good level.

I also updated my team slightly. Right now, it's:

Hogden (Pignite), level 25
Bonanza(Simisage), level 23
Privee (Tranquill), level 24
Chickadee (Drilbur), level 23
Lindsey (Scraggy), level 23
Mersault (Tirtouga), level 25.

Your Pokemon should all be around levels 31-33 if you want to breeze through Elesa, and for Clay they should be around levels 33-35. Try to get your Drilbur to level 31 at the least so that it can evolve into Excadrill and you can beat Elesa easily. During this time your Tranquill will evolve into Unfezant at level 32 as well.

All right; thank you for your advice! I'm a little worried about her Zebstrika, though, as it has Flame Charge. Should I box her and replace her with my Sandile for this battle, or do you think I'll be okay?

have fun trying 2 evolve that gurdur

An unwritten rule is if the starter dies, it's GAME OVER.

no its not

I have a spare DS and a copy of White 2, so evolving him should be a cinch. Even so, I don't think I'll evolve him for a while, seeing as I've opted for my Scraggy now.

An unwritten rule is if the starter dies, it's GAME OVER.

Actually, I think that's just an optional rule.

The last time I tried a Nuzlocke was a few months ago with X. There wasn't that much special about it, I just kept getting sucky selections of Pokemon and somehow managed to scrape by to the 7th gym with them.

I got a Raltz though. I've never really used it before and had no intentions of ever doing so because I thought it and its evolution's looked lame. It became the MVP for that team though and pretty much carried the team to where it all ended. I grew to like it since it was pretty much the only useful Pokemon I had, which is why Gardevoir is now my 5th favorite Pokemon.

(Yea, there's 700+ Pokemon and I only really have a fondness for 5 of them and their evolution's. I'm picky.)

Fixed.
