From Vanillaware (the creators of Odin Sphere) comes this Wii exclusive: Oboro Murasama Youtouden. It's an action-RPG scheduled to come out in 2008 in Japan. Hopefully, Atlus will bring this game to the Americas. The game is said to have two control schemes: one for casual gamers, and one for hardcore gamers.

Is it just me or does this game look absolutely gorgeous?

I don't know why, the kid reminds me of L (from Death Note). Maybe it's the eyes.
Yeah, but if it's the eyes, then he could remind you of Near as well.

That game looks amazing.

Nooooooooo. Kill that stupid kid! Man, none of the kids were worthy successors to L, and therefore, not worthy rivals to Raito.

They weren't worthy successors, but I actually thought Mello was cool...
Yeah, I like anime, but not all anime. And I never saw the Death Note anime, but I read the manga. Is the anime just as good?

I read the manga first and then watched the anime. I thought that the manga was simply amazing, specially the first part. I simply loved the interaction between Raito and L (both as Raito/L and Kira/L). Then the second half.... well, it was good, but nowhere near as good as the first one. I never really cared for neither Mello nor Near. And the ending... well, I didn't like it, I accepted it, but I didn't like it.

The set-up was great, but there were many things that changed: the psychological profiles of several characters changed dramatically, and also, there were many things that could be done to escape the final result (in my opinion), but the creators decided to put something to make it unavoidable (something that I never expected to happen from one of the main characters). But in the end, I think one of the things I hated the most is that luck had a lot to do with the final result (not like the end of the first part, where everything was carefully planned). I know that you already read the manga, but I tried to avoid giving any spoilers for anyone that may want to read it.

Ok, now with the anime. Madhouse did an excellent job in my opinion; the presentation is amazing. The first 25 episodes (or 26, I don't remember exactly) follows the first half of the manga really closely (except for a couple things, and specially one thing at the very end which I did NOT like at all). Then the following 12 episodes (or 11) cover the second half of the manga, in a really compressed way. They changed a few things and simply ignored others to make it shorter, but I think they covered most of the good stuff. The final confrontation is set up wonderfully, leaving cliffhangers everywhere and keeping everyone intrigued (even people who already read the manga).

Of the anime I've watched this year, I consider both Death Note and Nodame Cantabile to be among the best of the year. Highly recommended, even if you read the manga.

Well then, I guess I'll be watching Death Note. I needed a new anime to watch anyway, I kind of exhausted my current stuff.
