Do any of you guys have experience notating music? I gotta say, I'm not the biggest expert on music notation... my teachers caught on and asked me to write down a tune I arranged, as preparation for the music theory class at the U.

(I already had a lead sheet for said tune, but that was no help since it was just letter chords and melody AND it was in the wrong key. In my arrangement, I ended up transposing the song and fleshing out the chords).

So I spent the last few hours writing down this tune... OMG... It's so tedious. :X Ugh.

Music notation varies from country to country. I looked at Chinese notation and nearly exploded. But, for band and for 8th grade music, we had tried music notation. For band my director had us start in 4th grade, and in music we started in 8th. I was the only on in band in my music class. So instead of having to do the actual project I got to run around and help people. It sucked.

WTF. I just Googled Chinese notation... Wow. And I thought what I was doing was difficult, haha...

Haha. Don't worry about it being difficult, it becomes natural.

Yea, it is pretty fun.

I mean, yeah, it's fun, especially when you see the end product (I've been looking at the finished tune for a solid hour now, haha), but it's just so slow... 0_0

I'm just spoiled by the ... fastness of cable Internet, I guess.

You use a Sibelius or hand? I find using hand better if you're doing jazz. But for rock, I'll use Sibelius.

All by hand. And this is jazz, pretty much. Brazilian jazz, but still jazz. It's a tune called Luiza by Antonio Carlos Jobim... I don't think it's ever been written out for guitar. It's an orchestra + piano + voice tune. There's a dude doing it on guitar on YouTube, and I kinda based my arrangement on his.

You wrote by ear? Or did you have the piece already and converted.

No, I wrote by ear.

That's the video of the guy's arrangement... mine is similar, but not quite the same.

Woah, nice. I've tried that once, it takes awhile.
You're telling me. ;_;

I spent around 3 or 4 hours just on getting it written out... not to mention the same amount of time I spent actually arranging the tune, haha. :P

Oh well. Maybe I can sell my arrangements eventually. 0_0 I actually just wrote it out in Encore... much faster, obviously, haha. And a lot better for digital distribution. D:

Haha. I've been working on the same piece for a few months. It's pretty long. I have it at like 40 measures, with 1st clarinet, 2nd, 3rd, 1st trumpet, 2nd, bass clarinet, Tuba, french horn, Euphonium, 2nd Euphonium, Snare, bass , triangle, and marimba. My friend's editing it, and adding in the codas and accents, etc.

Its not nearly good enough to be sold though.
