No DIY message in a bottle?

For the past few days I haven't had ANY diy's washed up on my beach at all, I've checked every place where it could be and I just haven't seen one at all :-( Does anyone know why?

Do you check before inviting players into your town? I have 2 islands and pick up the DIY message bottle when I visit my 2nd island each day. Sometimes a 2nd bottle will spawn when my 2nd island plays. Not sure if regular visitors can pick the bottles up. Both my islands have best friend each other.
