In 3 years I will probably be going to Taiwan for college because reasons. I've read on the internet and a couple message board sources claim that the only way you can get Nintendo consoles there is in Japanese because Nintendo doesn't officially support Taiwan and worst of all, the games aren't even translated to Mandarin. Does anyone here come from Taiwan or know about the situation. Would I have to buy (if the NX is still region locked) a Nintendo NX from NA and then just download all my stuff because I cant get an Asian Nintendo console in the language of my choice? I would have prefered my games in Mandarin to help with learning the language but it seems if I want to play my Nintendo games (assuming the NX will still be region locked) I'll have to either learn Japanese or import??

If anyone lives in Taiwan and knows about this can you explain how they even play games over there?

There are actually video games in Taiwan, but expect seeing them from Japanese and Asian regions. While the latter usually comes with English as well, sometimes along with Taiwanese. There's an official website for Nintendo games in this particular country. The funny thing is, Wii U hasn't even released in there, since it wasn't selling so well elsewhere. The best luck you'll have to find video games in Taiwan is going to Taipei, the capital of the country.

If you plan on bringing your North American Nintendo consoles to Taiwan, keep in mind that some of them will require connecting to an American proxy server if you ever want to access Internet with these consoles. Both American Wii and Wii U will IP block any details that don't belong to that region, while 3DS won't.
