Not sure if anyone has seen this yet (can be read here Here and other places since last night.)

I understand and its within their rights to do so but my questions lies with this statement:

As part of our on-going push to ensure Nintendo content is shared across social media channels in an appropriate and safe way, we became a YouTube partner and as such in February 2013 we registered our copyright content in the YouTube database. For most fan videos this will not result in any changes, however, for those videos featuring Nintendo-owned content, such as images or audio of a certain length, adverts will now appear at the beginning, next to or at the end of the clips. We continually want our fans to enjoy sharing Nintendo content on YouTube, and that is why, unlike other entertainment companies, we have chosen not to block people using our intellectual property.

What is this Certain Length? how long can we make these videos now?
The reason I am wondering is I play on doing ACNL videos about my town (I dont think it counts as a lp) and its really the first time I am doing something like that , most of my gameplay videos upload are from twitch on other account. I was never planning on being a partner of youtube, so I don't know if this apply to me or everyone.

I think what I am saying is very confuse on what to do

Looks like Nintendo is trying to take all the revenue from lets plays.

Either way, you can't be a youtube partner with just gameplay videos.

Please note: you may not be able to monetize videos which use any of the following without the explicit permission of the person who created or produced all material:

Music (including cover songs, lyrics, and background music)
Graphics and pictures (including photographs and artwork)
Movie or TV visuals
Video game or software visuals. Click here for details.
Live performances (including concerts, sporting events, and shows)

edit: misread that as planning on being a partner.

I think music wise [as in if you were only posting the music] it's more than 30 seconds before it can be taken down for copyright. But I don't know how it works with gameplay, and obviously background music comes with that.

I think you'll be safe though. It's only if you're earning money from your videos - which I think can only be done as a youtube partner. And if it is everyone, then they'll just put adverts on your videos, which I don't think there's anything you'd personally need to do about it.

EDIT: Just saw someone comment on youtube (so not sure exactly how legit) that it's only for more than 10 minutes of Gameplay, and only if earning.

I'm guessing that means no more Victory Secret commercials when I'm about to watch GameGrumps play Mario Party, lol.

I'm sorry but I don't even understand what all of this means :/

Basically, if you are filming yourself play nintendo games on youtube, and earn money from adverts/however people earn from youtube, Nintendo is claiming those earnings and sticking adverts on your videos. Or that's what I gather from it atleast.

If you only watch these videos, then the only thing you'll notice is more relevant adverts probably.

hmm I do recall in one of josh NL videos a person made a comment asking why the video was only 10 mins and he stated that Nintendo told him he could only do a video of that length. I just thought it was for the mayor program.

If that the case its bit short (would rather it be 15 mins for gameplay) But if its just those that are earning money for their videos and stuff. Just wish they would go into detail on it (more then that statement anyway)

I'm not sure either, I got partnered not too long ago and I was planning to make Animal Crossing video's. Not to make money of course, but if I can get my usual rate out of it, it would be nice. Nintendo didn't "block" my old videos yet and those are all under 10 minutes.

Joystiq has abit more infor or information on it.

To date, Nintendo's Content ID Matching spree seems to focus on recent releases like Super Mario 3D Land, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, and New Super Mario Bros. U. Currently, Let's Play videos for older Nintendo-published games are unaffected.

so it seems the newer games are getting this? Just to make sure Let's play are walkthoughs of games and not just gamplay? or is a video counts as a let's play if you add your voice and other effects to them?

Let's plays I think are just watching people play the whole game (so practically a walkthrough). So if you just show of features it doesn't count.

Are longer videos of new games being removed then?

I've got a email from my youtube partner and they said that if you make the video's (even let's plays) as personal as possible with your own face on it, voice and graphics there's a possibility that it's allowed. but i think no-one is 100% sure yet.

So they are taking peoples money? I know some people actually earn money from youtube...

If I understood that correctly, that's a lil messed up.

That's how I understood it. They don't like people making money off their back. - They're not the first company to do this though.

Pretty much this. All the money earned from views will go to Nintendo's pockets. I can see this ruining Chuggaaconroy.

We shouldn't really complain too much, though. I feel we should be happy that they're still allowing us to record and show anything at all, even if we're not making money off of it.

Haha what? How many companies take down every gameplay video of their games?

I guess its just one of the things Nintendo is doing to make up for its low sales. They had another loss again last year.

I was going to do a lets play.. I still might but this has scared me a little bit from doing so..

but at the same time... they arent claiming copyright and shutting down videos they are just claiming the money from ads on the videos.. soo its not that bad I guess :S

I don't mind this. I mean all we're doing is filming their game, that's our choice. And all they're doing is putting an ad on it. They'll use that money to make more games/hire more people and this is a good thing really.

Nintendo is VERY good about fan-made content, even those that may make money. We're really lucky Nintendo is as lenient as they are.

I've seen some people on youtube trying to warn the video maker's like it's the end of the world, it's just a little silly. If you don't want to support nintendo any more, adblock is right there.
