New town and date question

I am starting a brand new town (for my husband, or so he says!) and he's leaving the layout and mayor generation up to me. But for me, I suddenly realise that I have no idea what date I want to begin with.

I don't feel like using today's date because it's too close to Toy Day, and I don't want to just go back a month or two and then have the rushed feeling of being brand new with Halloween and the Harvest Festival.

Would beginning on the date of release be a good idea? I think that was June 13th or so, or would January 1st 2013 be a good idea?

I know that this is subjective, but I could really use some opinions. I'm really torn on this and with a brand new shiny town in my hands I want to go into it informed, but not overwhelmed.

This is a good idea, why not start from the beginning. Im not sure if you are willing to TT or not, but TTing could help you catch up to the current date.

Better to start out in the summer months because there are more bugs and fish available.

Thank you - all of you! I hadn't thought about the bug and fish availability.

Starting in June sounds great. I hadn't thought about the snow obscuring the grounds nor the bugs and fish issue.

So...June it is! Thanks again. Sometimes I just need a few opinions to help me along, and I really appreciate them.

Also, come to think of it, Bug Offs aren't really stressful, so Summer is a good time to start. I think I may do some TT'ing to catch up a bit after I've built up my town to a reasonable state.

Looks like you have good replies. FYI my second town is less than 3 months ahead of main town. 4-6 months would have been better. Good luck. Have fun!

Date of release it is. I set it this morning to June 9th and it seems fine. I doubt the game would care if I set it earlier than the release date, but I realize that I like the "new" feeling of when the game was actually available. I can clearly see everything. I began, for the heck of it, with Jan 1st, accidentally lost a snowball over a cliff and smashed one into a tree, so the December thing can wait. Ugh!

I restarted and now I'll stick with June 9th. My other town is in the first days of December, so I'll enjoy having the best of both worlds. I think I have a decent layout with room for PWP's and Re-Tail close to the dock. So it looks pretty good to me.

Toeto, enjoy your New Year's gift. I saved the White Snake I got and gave it to my mayor in my other town before I reset my new one.
