The staff have not told us how to earn fear essence, but most people seem to get it randomly when posting and viewing threads. But not every post/view gives it.

Yep, it seems to be completely random. I hadn't gotten any all day and then I logged back in recently and got some just for viewing a few threads. There is a link to get 80 fear essence for free from The Woods Guide in the Bulletin Board post.

The link is for 80 TBT, not 80 Fear Essence. TBT is much better in my opinion though.
