New 3DS and new game but there already was a save file?? help!!!

I'm new to this forum. Hi!

So I like Animal Crossing and recently bought the Nintendo 3DS, so I (of course) bought Animal Crossing: New Leaf too. When I started the game I immediatly chose to make a new save file. This all was fine and well, but then I found out that there was another house of another save file in my city. I was kind of confused. This house was rather big and already had a lot of stuff in it. The house was surrounded by several different kinds of fruit trees(!!). On different internetsites I read that there will be only one kind of fruit in your city when you start it... So again, I was confused. When I started the game the day after this, I saw that there was another save file: that of a certain 'Cara'. This save file is the mayor and also had some money. The most confusing thing was that this save file has certain things from the Island (you know, the mermaid furniture), but I couldn't go to the island yet.
Also, the plaza thingy with the tree in it is also already there, but on the internet I read that when you start the game for the time you are putting it somewhere.

Is this normal???? How could this happen??? Help please!!

Did you buy it recycled? You created a new player, not a new town/mayor.

Hey, welcome to the forum!
And nah that is not the normal beginning of the game, did you buy it 2nd hand? Maybe the person who sold it didnt delete his save file. You can easily do that when you log in and Isabelle asks if you can get started and you tell her that you need help first and click on re-create the town. Then you start anew where you are the mayor of the town

I did not buy it recycled. It was new. There also was a Nintendo codethingy in, the one you can use for Club Nintendo (is it still called that way?)

You have to start up the game with the mayor. I think you said it was Cara? Then Isabelle will give you some options. Choose "delete the town" . She will ask if you are sure, because everything be will be gone. Say yes, then start up your own game as the mayor.

If you want to keep the bells, mermaid items, fruit ect. Ask someone on the forums if you can bring them to their town, then pick them up again after you start your new town. Although, it might be funner to start fresh and earn the items on your own.

That's a pickle. It shouldn't have done that, like others have said, just get Isabelle to recreate the town for you.

Someone had to of played the game before you. It's very odd that you bought it new and it already has a mayor. I'm not sure what could have happened there.

I have contacted the shop about it, so that they will maybe check better if everything's deleted before they sell it again. I still have one question:

Is it possible to delete the Cara save file and make the Gerinda save file mayor??

No, you have to delete the mayor and start all over.

Thats pretty creepy, it reminds me of the creepypasta "ben drowned".. you should read it. if you bought it used, then it probably wasnt wiped properly. if not, i call it a ghost.
