I used to have a really great town on ACNL, but I upgraded my DS to an XL recently and lost my game (it was a digital copy, not the cartridge).

I recently bought the cartridge so I could play again, but I got really into it and lost my patience. I began time traveling forward by one day constantly so I could get a huge collection of clothes/furniture/etc. to get back to where I was, and now I feel guilty and less accomplished. On my other game I used to time travel some too....

I need some advice from people who have played the game without changing the date at all, and people who do change the date!! I need pro's and con's, because I'm thinking of completely restarting and doing it *right* this time, but I'm just unsure since I don't necessarily want to start all over from square one!!

Also, if I do reset, is there anything in particular I should look out for? (I've never paid much attention to village layouts, character looks, original neighbors, etc. I just kind of take what I'm given at first)

Does anyone have any advice?

I personally didn't start time travelling till at least way over half a year since I got the game, and only started tt-ing a lot in order to achieve the last bits of things for my catalog (such as arts, furniture/clothing, gulliver and saharah). I was then just like you, tt-ing 1 day after another. Personally i feel this is accomplishing, because while it's kind of cheating, i decided to try and get as much things as i possibly can myself vs simply paying bells to get everything from other players, which IMO is less accomplishing. But aside from that, i also stalk the markets to see what's out there to buy, mainly with DLCs that i can not otherwise obtain by myself.

Personally i don't think you should restart the game just because of this. While tt-ing, in the end you still worked on it. Even from countless time travelling, there's still the chances that you won't get all seasonal furniture/clothing... And besides those, there's still so much more other things you need to collect.

As with villagers it's really up to your preference of who you want and how original you want them to be. If you want to keep their shirt and furniture, you gotta be a jerk xD don't help them on any of their requests involving items unless it's just fruits. Fill your retail with stuff so they can't even sell their stuff. their catchphrase may change eventually because they like to steal others'.

I'm one of the players that play day by day everyday. I quite enjoy it, you play the day experience of the one day and it's also the same day in reality, just feels like an animal crossing life. I rarely ever time travel, the only time was for breeding hybrids just anxious to know what will pop up and also to finish up the Gracies fashion check. Time travelling is good when you know what you want and need, but I stick to playing the slow day by day because if I time travel too much, I'm missing something in the gameplay and it would get repetitive fast and I just feel kind of off everytime I travel, not to get me wrog time travelling is very good, so happy that the game has so many options to control and create!

my thoughts on the pros & cons for day to day game play:
pros
-easy to manage especially if you dont have hours + to play
-follows a traditional way of playing for maximize fun

cons
-takes more time to complete
-miss a day and forget to tt

I think if you restart it's ok! most of the items canbe obtained again, plus new map, and more to explore and change to try differently~

Thanks all for your advice! I took it all into consideration, but actually ended up resetting the other day, and I'm actually living for it, though. So, :) thanks again!!!
